She once slept in a couchette on a train going from Paris to Madrid with three Spanish nuns, and another time she slept on the floor of a castle in Bavaria. • My Favorite Hotel: Stanza Mare Coral Comfort, in the Dominican Republic. Away from the all-inclusive pandemonium, this quiet hotel has lovely apartment-style rooms and direct access to a virtually empty beach, and it's walking distance to some interesting nonresort restaurants, including the beachside Italian expat Huracan Cafe. (Try the linguine with lobster and truffle oil!)
