Bottom Line

The Ibis Amsterdam Centre is adjacent to the city's Centraal Station, and has prime access to trains, trams, and buses, making it a convenient choice for those stopping by for a quick layover. Although the building itself feels more industrial, the lobby is fresh, stylish, and inviting; it even has a food station with a coffeemaker and snacks. The hotel also features a contemporary lounge -- Bar Rendez-vous -- as well as a quaint breakfast buffet. Stairways offer great views of the train station through expansive glass windows, and a glass bridge connects the two buildings that house the 363 guest rooms. The rooms are simple, clean, and functional, but lack basic amenities such as coffeemakers and mini-fridges. Beds are comfy with fluffy white bedding, but they do, unfortunately, take up the majority of the rooms' space. Rooms are quite small, and triple rooms seem like they'd hardly accommodate that many people and luggage. Noise from the trains could also be a downside for light sleepers.

Ibis Amsterdam Centre

Location

Near Centraal Station, but not immediately close to shopping or dining

Ibis Amsterdam Centre is a quick walk to Amsterdam Centraal Station, the city's main train, bus, and tram hub. The notorious (and bustling) Red Light District is an 11-minute walk away, and other top attractions are easily accessed via tram.

Marked by cobblestone roads, street-level canals and an abundance of coffee shops (which are most often known for something other than coffee), Amsterdam is both a quiet and lively city without the pretention of European metropolises.

In the summer, visitors can enjoy live music at the Openluchttheater, an open-air venue at the Vondelpark, or the Roots Music Festival. The Gay Pride parade also takes place in the summer, and the city's many museums -- including the Van Gogh Museum or the Anne Frank House, where Frank and her family hid from the Nazis during World War 2 -- are popular year-round. Visitors in April can experience Queen's Day, which celebrates the queen's birthday and includes a massive flea market, parties, and outdoor concerts.

Noordermarkt is known for its antiques, and Brouwerij de Prael is a recommended stop for beer enthusiasts. Fun dining spots include the famous sandwich spot Van Dobben, as well as Pancake Bakery, which offers more than 70 types of pancakes and a slew of other breakfast goods.
