Bottom Line

With a great location alongside the Fanny Hill slope, the Interlude offers some of the best ski-in/ski-out access in the area. Perks include free covered parking and use of a nearby hotel's pool and Jacuzzi. However, amenities are limited and some of the condos are past their prime, with worn furnishings and old kitchen appliances that need to be updated.

Interlude Condominiums, A Destination Residence

Scene

Traditional Snowmass condo rentals, but units vary from recently renovated to obviously outdated.

The Interlude has been a Snowmass mainstay for many years, and once attracted celebrity owners such as Lucille Ball. The mid-range property now tends to draw families and groups, who may appreciate the spaciousness of the standard two- and three- bedroom condos.

From the exterior, the units look like typical older Snowmass condo rentals, with wood-paneled and brick facades, large windows, and slatted balconies. Interiors vary widely, however, as the decor is hit-and-miss. Some units haven't been updated in almost a decade and offer tired decor, such as worn velvet sofas, pastel mountain prints or maps of the Aspen/Snowmass ski runs from 1985, along with dated kitchens, old appliances, and dingy bathrooms. Other units look new and fresh, with matching appliances, granite countertops, new flooring, and contemporary bedspreads.

The property sits in a prime spot alongside the Fanny Hill slope and the grounds look gorgeous year-round. When not covered in multiple feet of snow, they feature lush landscaping -- lucky guests might even spot a tomato or two. The property's ski-in/ski-out location is one of the best in Snowmass, and condos offer outdoor ski locks.

Guests have free use of the nearby Silvertree hotel’s pool and Jacuzzi, since the Interlude does not have these standard mid-range hotel amenities. The property also lacks a fitness center and spa.

Location

In Snowmass Village, walking distance to the Village Mall

The Interlude sits alongside Fanny Hill, with ski-in/ski-out access to the slopes. It is also a five-minute walk from the Village Mall, which is the happening spot in Snowmass.

Snowmass Village is a small town about nine miles outside of Aspen. Snowmass has it’s own ski area with the most vertical feet of skiing in America, a large seasonal shopping mall (with coffee shops, restaurants, and bars), and a shuttle system that runs back and forth to Aspen every 30 minutes until late night. The Village Mall is basically the top of the Village, with most lodging and hotels laid out below it, down the hill.

As for getting to Snowmass, most travelers fly into Aspen Airport directly and forgo the four hour-drive from Denver, but flights are often delayed due to winter weather.

  • 12-minute drive to Aspen Airport
  • 4-hour drive to Denver International Airport
  • 5-minute walk to the Village Mall with restaurants, bars, and entertainment
  • 5-minute drive to the Village Market for grocery and supplies
  • 19-minute drive to Aspen
  • 35-minute drive to Maroon Bells Scenic Wilderness Area

Rooms

Spacious two- or three-bedroom units with hit-or-miss decor

The Interlude only offers two- or three-bedroom units -- all of which have fully equipped kitchens with appliances and utensils. Other features include wood-burning fireplaces with a free supply of wood, and balconies or patios with charcoal barbecue grills. The patios that face Fanny Hill are true ski-in/ski-out locations.

While condos at the Interlude are spacious, some of these individually owned units haven’t been updated in years. It is each owner’s responsibility to update the units, so decor is hit-or-miss. Some units feature contemporary decor, flat-screen TVs, fresh bathrooms with stone-tiled showers, and kitchens with remodeled cabinets, granite countertops, and matching appliances. Older units are drastically different, with stained carpeting, worn mattresses and bedding, and outdated furniture. There have also been some housekeeping complaints by some guests.
