La Tavola dei Cavalieri

There's a serious pastoral vibe at La Tavola dei Cavalieri. Part of the Mount Subasio National Park, La Tavola provides a charming "agriturismo" experience on a working farm that grows grains, legumes, and vegetables, much of which supplies La Tavola's restaurant. La Tavola has livestock too: horses, pigs, Maremma sheepdogs, and a donkey. Guests can learn about the farm's operation, which is dedicated to ecological and organic principles. It can be a treat to walk the winding trails through the property's vineyards, woods, and meadows, passing by hedges and blooms of lavender. There's also a garden with tables and umbrellas, and the friendly host makes guests feel right at home. Meals are served in a glassed-in conservatory-style dining room with plenty of natural light, accompanied by wines and craft beers from the nearby vineyards and monastery of San Biagio. La Tavola is an especially great spot for couples.

La Tavola dei Cavalieri offers an inviting location in rural Umbria on the slopes of Mount Subasio. It is eight miles northeast of the Assisi city center, and such attractions as the Basilica of St. Francis. The Assisi train station is 13 miles southwest, and Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi–Umbria International Airport is 17 miles -- about 40 minutes -- east. The location is perfect for those seeking rural serenity.

Rooms at La Tavola dei Cavalieri are arrayed in four stone buildings, which range from the master residence to a converted barn. One of the buildings sits next to a Lebanon cedar tree. The 13 rooms combine the rustic with the gracious, and include whitewashed walls and exposed stonework, antique furniture, including painted antique headboards, and white embroidered bedspreads. Rooms range in size from 130 square feet to 750 square feet in the apartment. Nonsmoking rooms are available, and some rooms have only showers and no tubs. All rooms have flat-panel TVs with satellite channels; free Wi-Fi is available only in the public spaces. Some rooms have wardrobes and writing desks, and some have coffee/tea makers.

La Tavola dei Cavalieri offers its guests a distinctive Umbrian dining experience, with regional cuisine created from local meat and produce, much of it from the on-site farm. The farm stay also has an ample breakfast buffet (for a fee). At 49 feet, the outdoor pool is suitable for laps. Also on site are cooking classes, wine tasting, a games/TV room, reading room, barbecue area. Spa and massage services are available (for a fee) and mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding (all for a fee) are nearby.
