Bottom Line

The 22-room upscale boutique O&B Athens Boutique Hotel is a youthful, contemporary spot ideally located within walking distance of the Acropolis and many other ancient historic sites and museums. Although it sits in a somewhat seedy neighborhood, the surroundings are lively and (usually) safe. The modern rooms are soundproofed, and the sheets and towels are high-quality. The O&B is a cool (air-conditioned) jewel in the center of hot, crowded Athens.

O&B Athens Boutique Hotel

Scene

Urban cool with a homey feel and a modern Greek restaurant

The O&B Athens Boutique Hotel is an oasis of urban cool, designed with great attention to detail, from the funky but warm ambient lighting to the gorgeous hardwood floors and the wildflowers not so haphazardly arranged on the restaurant tables. The lobby is small but uncluttered, with picture windows right on the narrow street and enormous mirrors making the space feel even larger. There is an elevator, but the spiral-ish stairway to the upper floors is stunning, evoking the feel of the Greek islands. The Ochre & Brown Hotel Barestaurant is small but mighty, with a menu of Greek specialties and a free morning breakfast buffet of hot dishes, Greek yogurt, traditional pastries, and plenty more. The ochre-and- brown color scheme is very handsome, and the bar features a lot of polished steel, a skylight, and plenty of space between the tables for a private feeling. Even the room numbers are out of the ordinary, painted on arty tiles that are a testament to the O&B's inspired vision.

Location

In the heart of Athens, walking distance to tourist sites, two minutes from the metro

The O&B Athens Boutique Hotel is tucked inside a narrow alley in a seedy-looking neighborhood, but, despite the graffiti and occasional strip club, the area should be safe for walking, day or night. There are shops for antiques, coffee shops, small theaters, and restaurants in the immediate surroundings, and the Thisio metro stop is two minutes' walk from the lobby door. The Acropolis is a 10-minute walk, as is the Ancient Agora. It's a perfect location for tourists, and good for business travelers, as well.
