Acacia Suites

Acacia Suites occupies a building with a modern facade on a wide Barcelona street lined with apartment buildings. It's a clean and comfortable but no-frills property; decor is dated, but public spaces are well maintained. The lobby area is bright and uncluttered, with white marble floors and wood-grain paneling covering the walls and reception counter. Adjacent is a large lounge area with a flat-screen TV where guests can relax in the many sofas and chairs upholstered in cheery shades of turquoise, pink, and yellow. This hotel caters to families, who make up the majority of its clientele. Many are leisure travelers, but many people staying here also visit the nearby hospital either for treatment or to accompany family members.

The hotel is located in the Eixample district of Barcelona's city center, close to the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona. There is a subway station just around the corner, giving easy access around the city. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, shops, and department stores in the immediate vicinity, plus some tourist sites are within walking distance.

Rooms here are clean and comfortable, but decor is dated, and has an almost retro look. Measuring 484 square feet (45 square meters), each suite is made up of a bedroom and living space separated by a partition. A kitchenette occupies a corner of the living area, where a sofa bed sleeps two extra people. The wall paneling, doors, partition, kitchen cabinets, and some of the furniture are made of composite wood covered in a glossy finish reminiscent of the '70s. The colorful modern artwork on the walls has a similar retro vibe. The floors are carpeted in emerald green, with matching curtains hanging at the windows.

Air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and safes are the standard amenities. Kitchenettes are equipped with minibars, microwaves, two electric burners, dishes, cutlery, pots, and pans. Bathrooms are spacious and fitted with marble countertops, shower/tub combos, bidets, large mirrors, and equipped with hairdryer and toiletries. Small appliances like coffeemakers, toasters, blenders, and irons are available on request.  

Note that several guests have complained that the plumbing is noisy -- to the extent of being woken up in the middle of the night. Also, the partition between the bedroom and living area does not reach the ceiling, and the open space at the top lets in light and sounds, which can be a nuisance.

There are few on-site features or extra services on offer at this small hotel. A continental-style breakfast is available every morning for an extra fee and is delivered to guest rooms. A room service menu of simple meals is also available throughout the day. Each room has access to the hotel's roof terrace where there's a comfortable seating area, a few sun loungers, and views over the city. The on-site meeting room can seat up to 15 people, and Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the hotel. Parking is available on-site, but subject to an expensive daily fee.
