Oyster Review Summary

Photos and Review by Oyster.com Investigators

Pros

  • Excellent central location on Passeig de Gracia
  • Spacious, all-white rooms decorated by a local Spanish designer
  • All rooms have big flat-screen TVs and stocked minibars
  • Some rooms have terraces or balconies with city views
  • Serene rooftop dipping pool with lounge chairs
  • Beautiful spa with lap pool and 8 treatment rooms
  • Michelin-rated restaurant serving Catalan cuisine
  • Modern fitness center

Cons

  • Some complaints of street noise
  • Fee for Wi-Fi

Bottom Line

The 98-room Mandarin Oriental is one of the most luxurious hotels in Barcelona, and certainly has one of the most recognizable hotel brand names in the city. It has a great location on Passeig de Gracia, and offers all the high-end amenities one would expect from the chain, including a rooftop dipping pool, a beautiful spa, and numerous restaurants (one has a Michelin star). All-white rooms are sleek, and some have balconies, but layouts can be a bit awkward. While the service is excellent, some guests complain about street noise and there is a pesky fee for Wi-Fi.

Oyster Hotel Review

 Location

On Passeig de Gracia in the lovely Eixample district

Located on the Passeig de Gracia, the Mandarin Oriental is a great starting point for local shopping and sightseeing. The hotel is within walking distance of the modernist landmarks Casa Milà and Casa Batlló. These eye-catching buildings designed by Antoni Gaudí currently function as museums that can be explored inside and out. This district is known for a vibrant nightlife scene, with many trendy bars and clubs, especially in the gay section (which is popularly known as Gayxample). In addition, the Passeig de Gracia metro station is less than two blocks away from the hotel, which makes exploring other parts of the city easy.

  • 24-minute drive from Barcelona El Prat Airport
  • On Passeig de Gràcia, lined by high-end shops and restaurants
  • 3-minute walk to whimsical Casa Batlló, a former home-turned-museum designed by Antoni Gaudí
  • 9-minute walk to the quirky Casa Milá (La Pedrera) building designed by Antoni Gaudí
  • 14-minute walk to Mercat de la Boqueria public market
  • 5-minute subway ride to the Barri Gótic (Gothic Quarter) for medieval architecture
  • 8-minute subway ride to Antoni Gaudí 's famously eye-catching Sagrada Família church
  • 9-minute subway ride to nightlife of El Born
  • 26-minute subway ride to the Camp Nou (FC Barcelona) soccer stadium, or a 12-minute drive
  • 28-minute subway ride to El Tablao de Carmen for flamenco dancing, or a 12-minute drive
  • 29-minute subway ride to Collserola Park, or a 25-minute drive
  • 37-minute subway ride to Monestir de Pedralbes, a former monastery that is now a museum, or a 14-minute drive
  • 52-minute subway ride to Tibidabo for panoramic views of the city and the coastline, or a 24-minute drive

 Bottom Line

The 98-room Mandarin Oriental is one of the most luxurious hotels in Barcelona, and certainly has one of the most recognizable hotel brand names in the city.
