It's all about location at the NH Calderón, as it is smack-dab in the city center and close to just about everything (including Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter). Rooms are typical of the NH chain, with contemporary decor, flat-screen TVs, stocked minibars, and spacious bathrooms. For views, ask for a room on a higher floor. The ultimate vistas, though, are to be found from the rooftop terrace. Open year-round, it offers a lovely pool and lounge chairs that overlook the urban landscape. A tiny wellness center with a hydro-massage shower and sauna is a nice perk, but the hotel's Spartan fitness center lacks basic equipment -- including a treadmill.

The NH Calderon is off the elegant Passeig de Gracia Boulevard and has an ideal location in central Barcelona. Guests can stroll safe, tree-lined streets to get to shopping and restaurants, with many options in close proximity to the hotel. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to La Pedrera and the Gothic Quarter, as well as Las Ramblas. La Boqueria, a special market with a variety of international fruits from around the world, is also nearby. A taxi stand is just outside the door, and bus stops and metro stations are within walking distance.
Barcelona is an eclectic city that is popular for its historic and remarkable architecture, vibrant club scene, and urban beaches along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The capital of the Catalan region, Barcelona speaks its own language -- literally and figuratively. Known for a frenetic pace, the city is full of modernist architecture, medieval history, quirky fashion, and endless tapas bars. Located on the northeast coast of the Iberian Peninsula, the city has a Mediterranean climate with mild, humid winters and warm, dry summers.
