In the outskirts of Berlin, near Tegel Airport
The Grand City Hotel Berlin Airport is fantastically convenient to anyone traveling through Tegel Airport. The area itself feels and looks somewhat suburban, but there is a convenient grocery store nearby. The metro station is about a 10-minute walk away, connecting guests to central Berlin in about 15 minutes. However, Tegel Airport is scheduled to close in 2014 as Schonefeld Airport expands service and Brandenburg Airport opens. Without convenience to the airport, there is much less reason to stay in this part of town.
The Grand City Central Hotel Berlin Airport is one of the more upscale, appealing options in this chain. That being said, it is still a budget property with sparse amenities. Updated, bright rooms have soothing, neutral-toned decor with modern artwork, cool furniture, and small flat-screen TVs. There's plenty of space in living areas, but shower stalls and bathrooms are tight, and no toiletries are provided. The all-white, modern breakfast room with flowers on the tables is appealing, but the buffet isn't included in the nightly rate. These 70 renovated rooms are also sometimes subjected to airplane noise. Guests who don't need to be near the airport might consider the centrally located sister property, Grand City Hotel Berlin Ku'Damm.
