Bottom Line

The H2 Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz is a modern lower-middle-range hotel, a short walk from its namesake historic square. Its 288 rooms, which include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, are small but stylish, and some can sleep up to four people. Bathrooms, with heated floors, rainfall showerheads, and their own speaker system, are the standout here. Another highlight is the large 24-hour self-service cafe. Rates are on par with higher-end mid-range hotels in the area, and guests might want to compare prices with the nearby Circus Hotel and the Hotel Amano.

H2 Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz

Scene

Stylish, minimalist modern vibe

The H2 Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz has stream-lined decor -- with a bubble motif -- throughout. Built in 2011, the hotel is housed in an eight-story building with a flat-white facade (the adjacent, higher-end Ramada is part of the same hotel group). The lobby is starkly modern with cool gray and blue walls, light-wood floors, and large drum-shaped pendant lights. Futuristic pod-shaped chairs near the front windows provide a seating area. The lobby's reception area flows into a large cafeteria-style restaurant, which has a range of sitting options -- cafe tables, stools facing the windows, blue-backed benches -- and is open 24 hours. It can get busy -- and noisy -- especially when tour groups have booked the hotel, which they frequently do. With rooms that can sleep from two to four, the hotel draws groups of friends traveling together and families, plus couples, who take the rooms for two.

Rooms

Chic, minimalist rooms with AC and stand-out bathrooms

The H2 Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz has 288 small, minimalist-styled rooms, which have bare wood floors, white bedding and walls, and light-wood furniture. Headboards have photo murals of blue backgrounds with bubbles. This bubble motif repeats itself in the shape of the mirrors and in the curved-shaped wardrobes. Rooms don't offer much space for moving around or for storage, and some guests have complained about the flat pillows, but they offer plenty of natural light through the large windows. Air-conditioning is individually controlled, and all rooms have small desks, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi but no coffeemakers, mini-fridges, or safes. In addition to twin rooms, the hotel also has rooms with three or four beds.

Bathrooms are a high point. They're modern and stylish with heated black-tile floors, beige-tile walls, and large standing showers with glass walls and rainfall showerheads. They even have their own speaker systems. Toilets are in separate alcoves. Hairdryers are provided.
