Best Kid-Friendly Hotels in Boston

Located inside a mall-and-convention-center complex, the Westin Copley Place is largely a business-focused hotel. But the big rooms, kids' menus, and free welcome treats for kids (from the "toy wagon") make it a solid choice for families, especially with so many of Boston's major attractions -- the Public Garden, Boston Common, and the start of the Freedom Trail -- within walking distance.

But it's the location -- across the street from the Public Garden, a flowery park with a lake that features swan boat rides in the summer and ice-skating in the winter -- that most appeals to parents.

This former apartment building, built at the turn of the 20th century, has beautiful stone work and bay windows on the outside and big, new rooms on the inside. For a family of four, it's one of the least expensive places to stay near Copley Square, and just a short walk from Newbury Street, Boston Common, and the start of the Freedom Trail.

This classy hotel features the city's only rooftop pool, making it a hit with the kids during the summer. Kids' menus are available for in-room dining; and at 350 square feet, the standard rooms are large enough to accommodate a crib or rollaway bed (which are available for free).

Surrounded by three parks, the New England Aquarium, and facing the harbor, the Boston Marriott Long Wharf owns a picturesque residence along the Long Wharf Pier on Boston Harbor. The idyllic waterfront address (near the airport, tourist sites, and downtown Boston) means this three-and-a-half-pearl property can afford to be expensive. Luckily the price tag translates to value that remains consistent even at 397 rooms: a clean, contemporary design, modern amenities, and spacious rooms with all the fixings.

The chic 39-room enVision Hotel Boston stands in a historic building on the edge of Jamaica Plain and Mission Hill neighborhoods. The mid-range hotel is most convenient for its medical rate and proximity to Longwood Medical Center, but is also fairly close to Fenway and across the street from Olmstead Park. There’s no restaurant on-site, and the area lacks dining and nightlife options, so hungry guests have to look elsewhere for anything more substantial than a cafe snack. Some rooms face the park and all include Keurig coffeemakers and flat-screen TVs.

The Hampton Inn Boston/Cambridge is a clean and pleasant, yet unremarkable chain hotel located in a gritty, industrial area, one mile from downtown Boston. It is convenient to Harvard and MIT, but ugly views look out over busy streets and an active construction site. Rooms are clean and rather large for urban accommodations. This two-and-a-half pearl hotel provides the basics for those traveling on a budget, but might not be suitable for guests who want a "unique New England experience," outstanding decor, or specialty offerings.
