Mandarin Oriental, Boston Rating: 5.0 Pearls

The 148-room Mandarin Oriental offers a standout spa and extraordinary service, but its bathrooms -- arguably the city's best -- are a real highlight. Even in the standard room, the bathroom has both a deep soaking tub and a separate marble shower with exceptional water pressure.

The 148-room Mandarin Oriental offers a standout spa and extraordinary service, but its bathrooms -- arguably the city's best -- are a real highlight. Even in the standard room, the bathroom has both a deep soaking tub and a separate marble shower with exceptional water pressure. Other bathroom highlights: a separate toilet stall, top-notch Aromatherapy Associates toiletries, thick Frette towels and robes, and a scale. The Lifestyle Room offers an additional twin bed, as well as an extra-luxurious bathroom. The lovely Ritz-Carlton bathrooms feature deep soaking tubs, plush towels, robes, and classy little extras like a jewelry holder. Separate marble showers, equipped with Bulgari toiletries, are a rare luxury in Boston, where most hotel bathrooms come with shower/tub combos. Upscale details like Lefroy Brooks bathroom fixtures, Fresh toiletries, and Frette bathrobes elevate the Fifteen Beacon's bathrooms from good to exceptional. The best part of the bathrooms at Fifteen Beacon: heated towel racks. Lovely marble, Molton Brown toiletries, and floor-lenth Ploh spa chenille robes help compensate for the tight quarters in the Taj's bathrooms. The Taj's bathrooms also include a special bath menu so that you can order a variety of drawn baths ($30-$85). The large bathrooms, with unusually spacious showers, Molton Brown bath products, bathrobes, slippers, and a lighted makeup mirror add a little pizzazz to the Liberty's slightly boring guest rooms. While guests enjoy the oversize showerheads and Bliss toiletries in the large, glass-enclosed showers, their companions might get a bit of a peep show; the art panels between the bathroom and the room are slightly translucent.
