The 173-room Sofitel is a luxury option in the Retiro neighborhood, sitting on a tree-lined street within walking distance of several sights as well as the Retiro station. The stately lobby makes a striking first impression: It has a high glass ceiling, black-and-white tiling, and elegant chandeliers. Rooms are also stately, with attractive artwork, thick curtains, marble bathrooms featuring separate showers and tubs, and classic blue and gold decor -- but some may find the look a bit staid. Due to its location and its numerous meeting rooms, the Sofitel attracts a lot of business travelers, but most tourists will be happy here, too -- especially considering the hotel's attractive pool, fitness center, and restaurant and bar. The only thing missing is a spa.

A business-friendly location next to Retiro station
The Sofitel is located in the downtown neighborhood of Retiro, next to a railway station and close to businesses and government agencies. The area is directly north of (and within walking distance of) Microcento, the city's financial and cultural heart.
Retiro is the transportation hub of Buenos Aires. Often, "transportation hub" is synonymous with gritty, depressing, and traffic-filled, but this is not the case with Retiro (except the traffic-filled part). The neighborhood is home to upscale shops, luxury hotels, and the Plaza San Martin park, surrounded by beautiful historic mansions (many of which now serve as embassies).

- 2-minute walk to Retiro station
- 6-minute walk to Plaza San Martin, surrounded by historic mansions
