The Cape, a Thompson Hotel

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Baja California, Mexico

In keeping with this high-end brand's reputation, The Cape, a Thompson Hotel is arguably one of the swankiest, most meticulously designed hotels in Cabo San Lucas. The 161 rooms vary greatly, but all have a super-chic look, plus luxurious features like custom sateen sheets, private ocean-view balconies with hanging daybeds, and well-appointed with cocktail bars that include free welcome tequila. Many include services like butlers and in-villa check-in. The property has two pools, an excellent surfer’s beach, a world-class Mexican restaurant, and a breathtaking spa, it’s unlikely guests will find much to fuss over. However, the secluded location away from town may dissuade some guests, though that's just what others are looking for.

Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Baja California, Mexico

The 118-room Resort at Pedregal is so exclusive that reaching it requires driving through a striking private tunnel. Set on a long sweep of beach at the base of towering mountains, the style here seamlessly blends modern design and local artisanal details. Rooms have gorgeous hardwood accents plus massive bathrooms and terraces with hot tubs, and select casitas open to the ocean with private pools and fire pits. Oceanside dining and locally sourced menus are a highlight, as are the infinity pools overlooking the beach. There's also a stunner of an organic spa, a modern gym, and a posh boutique.

Hacienda Beach Club & Residences

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Baja California, Mexico

A swimmable beach, spectacular sea and mountain views, a gorgeous zero-entry infinity pool with an adult-only level -- the romantic Hacienda Beach Club & Residences has a lot going for it. This luxury property has 109 massive, contemporary Mexican apartments, all with large furnished balconies, many with sea views. Hotel features include a lovely spa, a fitness program with free classes (yoga, pilates, TRX training), and one of Cabo San Lucas' best and most popular restaurants. And while the location on Medano Beach is spectacular -- and San Lucas' bustling marina is less than a five-minute walk away -- a bit of noise from party boats in the bay is inevitable.

Casa Bella Boutique Hotel

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Baja California, Mexico

It can be hard to find much about Cabo San Lucas that's charming -- at least that's what we thought before visiting the rustic, homey Casa Bella Boutique Hotel. This 14-room property is extra-quaint, and only a five-minute walk from the town's bustling marina. Rooms range from simple Standard Rooms to breezy suites, each with thoughtful details and authentic hacienda style. The flower-filled courtyard holds a small pool, and the one-room spa offers local-inspired treatments and remedies. Some noise from the wild strip behind the hotel is audible and there are no TVs, but the massive Mexican-tile bathrooms and free continental breakfasta are hard to dislike.

The Bungalows Breakfast Inn Hotel

Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Baja California, Mexico

The Bungalows Hotel is off the tourist track, in a residential neighborhood, but within walking distance to bars and restaurants. The 16 suites and two-bedroom bungalows are slightly rustic and entirely charming. All units have AC, pillow-top mattresses, and kitchenettes with mini-fridges and microwaves, purified drinking water, organic coffee, and French presses. Ceramic-tile bathrooms have walk-in showers and natural beauty products. The hotel's inland location does not afford a beach or sea views, but the small outdoor pool offers guest a chance to cool down. Next to the pool is a breakfast patio where gourmet, homemade, and daily-changing breakfasts are served each morning.
