Paths lined with plants, flowers and trees wind between the wooden buildings housing the rooms, and offer sweeping views of the valley and Cambria. Nooks with wooden benches, flower and herb gardens, and stone statues add to the overall quiet, romantic vibe of the property. The small, relaxing Sojourn Spa is located in a separate building and features a quaint indoor sitting area with a fireplace, a patio, and treatment rooms, including one for couples. The romantic touches may appeal to couples, but the hotel is also popular with families due to its large rooms and suites, as well as its heated pool.

The property is located amid woods, in a residential area a short drive from quiet downtown Cambria. Those looking to hike can find several trails nearby, and Main Street Cambria -- lined with art galleries and shops -- can be reached via a long downhill path. While the beach is not within walking distance, there are a couple of sandy stretches popular with surfers (and seals!) within a two-mile radius. The famous Hearst Castle is just a 13-minute drive away, and culture-rich San Luis Obispo can be reached in just over 30 minutes.

Most room categories are large and cozy, with homey decor (though some are more stylish than others), decks or private patios, white plantation shutters, microwaves, and mini-fridges. Most overlook the surrounding woods, and some offer sweeping views of the valley. Suites have up to two rooms, including a living area with a couch and a dining table, and a bedroom with either two queens or a king bed. Most Standard Rooms have older technologies, somewhat generic decor, and no outdoor space or fireplace. All rooms offer free Wi-Fi, biodegradable toiletries, flat-screen or tube TVs, alarm clocks, and coffeemakers.There are 13 pet-friendly rooms available for those traveling with dogs (guests must request these in advance to ensure availability).
