The Aventura Cove Palace is an all-inclusive mega-resort in family-friendly Puerto Aventuras. The hotel -- a step above many all-inclusives, with three good restaurants and four pools -- is kid-friendly, complete with a kids' club, kiddy pool, and teen lounge. (The Spa Palace next door is the adults-only option). The Aventura features tennis courts, a dive tank, free bicycle rentals, and modern rooms with flat-screen TVs, marble bathrooms, and Jacuzzi tubs in the center of most of the rooms (though a separate shower allows for privacy). One downside is that the hotel does not have standard beach access -- lagoons are protected by rock formations from the rough surf -- but access to other Palace resorts beaches, such as the Playacar Palace in Playa Del Carmen, is free.

The Aventura Spa Palace is located in Puerto Aventuras, a small resort community in between Playa Del Carmen and Tulum (both are about a 40-minute drive away).
Puerto Aventuras is home to a large marina, a golf course, and white-sand beaches where activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, swimming with the dolphins, and fishing are all popular pastimes. Although the hotel is geared toward couples, Puerto Aventuras is known as a family-friendly destination -- a small town with nice shops and restaurants but few lively bars. Those looking for a more wild Cancun experience may consider staying in the Hotel Zone.
