Bottom Line

Perhaps the most luxurious of the Dreams hotels in southern Mexico, this 486-room resort attracts families with its numerous pools, kids' club, daily activities, and white-sand beach with calm waters. But couples will not feel out of place, as the attractive, airy guest rooms are downright romantic. Teak wood and marble floors create an ambience of understated elegance, and the massive bathrooms (all with separate showers and Jacuzzi tubs) are a real treat. Plus, the indoor/outdoor spa has small plunge pools, Jacuzzis, and numerous treatment rooms. Some of the restaurants can get loud during peak hours, but other than that, Dreams Riviera Cancun is a tranquil resort for its size.

On a white-sand beach in Puerto Morelos, just a short drive from town

Map of Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa - All Inclusive

The Dreams Riviera Cancun sits on a pretty stretch of sand off Highway 307. There's little within walking distance, but Puerto Morelos' attractions and Cancun International Airport are just a quick drive away, and proximity to the main road means easy access to major sites, shopping, and nightlife.

Puerto Morelos is a former fishing village located halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. The area serves as a perfect compromise for anyone who wants to enjoy Cancun's stunning beaches but doesn't want them to be overrun by hordes of tourists. The impressive reefs just offshore attract a fair share of divers, and many come to take a dip in the inland cenotes (massive sinkholes filled with crystal clear groundwater). The laid-back vibe of the area makes it great for spending a day lounging or exploring without the fear of having to deal with packs of rowdy spring breakers.

Riviera Maya is the section of Caribbean coastline stretching between Cancun in the north and Tulum in the south. The beaches and the nightlife are the main draws here, and though some visitors never leave their mega-resort, some of Mexico’s best Mayan ruins are a short drive away.

  • 23-minute drive to Cancun International Airport
  • 9-minute drive to Puerto Morelos' shopping and dining
  • 34-minute drive to downtown Cancun (Ciudad Cancun)
  • 36-minute drive to Playa del Carmen
  • 1-hour and 15-minute drive to the Mayan ruins at Tulum
  • 2-hour and 45-minute drive to Chichen Itza ruins
