On a secluded beach on Isla Mujeres, a laid-back island off Cancun
This tranquil boutique hotel stands on a secluded beach with its own private dock. Its somewhat remote location, however, means that most tourist attractions are not within walking distance. One exception is the Dolphin Discovery property, which offers visitors the opportunity to swim with dolphins. Most everything else of interest is within a short drive, including the unique sculpture garden and beautiful reefs found at Garrafon National Park.
Isla Mujeres is a small island located eight miles east of Cancun. Only five miles long and half a mile wide, it has historically been a quiet, secluded fishing village. But as vacationers flock to the Riviera Maya section of the Yucatan Peninsula, Isla Mujeres has experienced a boom in tourism. For travelers in search of a more tranquil, relaxing experience far from the rowdiness and endless bustle of Cancun, the island is an ideal getaway.
Here, guests can revel in the island's quaint charm, enjoy the beautiful Caribbean Sea, walk among locals carrying their fishnets, and purchase handcrafted trinkets. In addition to swimming, snorkeling, and shopping, there are a number of sights to see on Isla Mujeres, such as the old mansion and gardens of Hacienda Mundaca, the amazing Turtle Farm, the beautiful reefs of Garrafon Park, the soft sands of Playa Norte, and the lovely views from Punta Sur.
The Hotel Villa Rolandi is a romantic, 35-room boutique that fully embraces the "less hectic than Cancun" vibe of Isla Mujeres. Two big draws are the secluded location on a pristine (albeit somewhat small) white-sand beach and the "no children under 13" policy. All rooms are spacious suites (the smallest starts at 498 square feet) that offer flat-screen TVs, large balconies with private Jacuzzis, and Italian marble floors. Great perks include a free continental breakfast delivered to rooms at no extra charge, and a 42-foot yacht that provides free transportation to and from Cancun. However, these luxe extras make for somewhat steep rates.
