Bottom Line
The Royal Cancun (not to be confused with the Royal In Cancun) is a mid-level hotel with a convenient location and plentiful amenities. Although the decor is fairly generic, each of the 288 suites offers fully stocked kitchens, dining tables, updated furniture, and spacious balconies. Perks here include a kids' center for the little ones, a large outdoor pool, and a vast, clean, white-sand beach. There's decent dining on-site, but many visitors choose to stock their kitchens at the market instead. With lovely landscaping, these low-rise units are a good alternative to some of the megaresorts in the area.

On a white-sand beach in the middle of the Hotel Zone
The Royal Cancun Resort is located in the middle of the Hotel Zone between the airport and downtown Cancun. It is a great spot for visitors that want to be in the center of the lively Hotel Zone and close to shops at La Isla, a modern shopping center.
The Zona Hotelera (or Hotel Zone) is the megaresort area in Isla Cancun that caters to mass tourism. Nightlife is one of its main draws, along with shops and restaurants, but there is little of Cancun's original flavor here. To get a hint of that culture, take a trip to Ciudad Cancun, the real downtown, where smaller restaurants, local shops, and quieter bars can be found.

- 15-minute drive to La Isla Shopping Center
- 22-minute drive to downtown Cancun (Ciudad Cancun)
- 40-minute drive to Puerto Morelos, with quiet beaches and great snorkeling spots
