The Villa Del Palmar is a family-friendly resort set in one of the calmer locations of Cancun. Rooms are charming, with homey decor, and feature modern amenities such as iPod docks and flat-screen TVs. All units sport kitchenettes (full kitchens in suites) and large bathrooms with marble showers. The outdoor pool area helps make up for the slightly seaweed-y beach, sporting a waterfall bridge and tiki bar. However, as of late 2011, construction was still ongoing on the property: Make sure to call ahead and book a room facing away from the building sites.

The Villa Del Palmar is located on the beautiful beaches of Playa Mujeres, an upscale resort area. The hotel is about 30 minutes from Downtown Cancun, and offers free shuttle service to shopping malls and a flea market. It's also just a short boat-ride from Isla Mujeres.
Thousands of spring breakers, honeymooners, couples, families, and young groups of friends flow into Cancun every year, making it one of the world's top beach destinations. The turquoise waters, beautiful stretches of sand, and night-long parties are a main draw here, but there are cultural attractions as well: Cancun is the gateway to the breathtaking Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza and Tulum (Coba is also nearby, but is less well-preserved). Even for those planning to spend most of their time in a lounge chair, these centuries-old archaeological sites are well worth a visit.
