A Little Inn on Pleasant Bay

Scene

A quiet stay on Pleasant Bay

A Little Inn on Pleasant Bay is exactly what an inn should be -- peaceful, charming and relaxing. The inn's historical architecture features a Main House (originally built in 1798, and once a hiding place for slaves traveling the Underground Railroad) with classic hardwood floors. What sets A Little Inn apart from other area inns and hotels is the fact that there are no televisions on the property, so guests can truly get away (although there is free Wi-Fi access, so tech junkies can still get their fix).

Guests can also enjoy a European buffet breakfast on the patio each morning, and take in a sunset over the bay from one of the two comfortable lounges, stocked full of magazines, books, and board games. Beautifully manicured gardens can be found in both the front and back of the inn. Penny, the inn's resident "greeter", is a Yorkshire terrier just looking for belly rubs.

Location

Remote enough to be away from it all, but just a short drive from town

A Little Inn is located right on Pleasant Bay in South Orleans. Pleasant Bay is equally distant between Chatham's Main Street and Orleans' town center (also Main Street). For shopping, restaurants, and activities, visitors can hit up the main streets in both towns for something to do. Orleans' other big draw is Nauset Beach -- a beautiful beach that's also a good spot for surfers. Just north of Nauset is Coast Guard Beach, another great surf spot.

It's worth driving south to Chatham to get a real Cape Cod experience -- Main Street there has a better "small town" feel and is much more extensive in terms of shopping options. Plus, being located in the "elbow" of the Cape has its perks. Chatham is also the perfect jumping off point for day trips around the Cape and to the islands, particularly if travelers take advantage of the private charter services at Chatham Bars Inn to the islands, rather than taking the ferries from Hyannis or Woods Hole.

  • 2-hour drive from Logan International Airport.
  • 10 minute drive to Main Street in Orleans
  • 10-minute drive to Main Street in Chatham
  • 20-minute drive to Nauset and Coast Guard beaches
  • 1-hour drive to Provincetown

Rooms

Nine unique rooms with fresh, homey decor

Spread out between the Main House and the Carriage House, each of the nine rooms (named for various boats you'll see in the bay) has its own style and vibe. They share some commonalities, including crisp white linens, bright color accents, and hardwood floors. Views are of the bay or garden, and some rooms have balconies, patios, or fireplaces. All bathrooms are private and clean, Cape Cod white. Rooms are stocked with books and magazines for guests to read, but there are absolutely no TVs anywhere -- for ultimate relaxation.

Tall folks take note: The ceilings in the Carriage House rooms are higher than those in the Main House rooms.

  • Beautiful rooms decorated crisp and white, true to Cape Cod style
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Gilchrist and Soames bath products
  • No TVs, but books and magazines in each room
  • Gorgeous views of the bay or gardens
  • Some rooms have balconies, patios, or fireplaces
  • Bed type varies
