1

One&Only Cape Town

Cape Town Central, Cape Town, South Africa

The One&Only Cape Town isn't the only five-pearl hotel on the waterfront, but it may be the most jaw-dropping in terms of amenities and price. Guest rooms are enormous with all the expected bells and whistles, including Nespresso machines and fantastic views of the marina or Table Mountain. The KidsOnly club provides numerous experiences to keep little ones occupied with its arts and crafts lounge and video game room. Themed activities change daily and include puppet shows, folktale storytelling, Cape Town music shows, and culinary experiences with hotel chefs.

Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel

Cape Town Central, Cape Town, South Africa

One of Cape Town's better-known luxury properties, The Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel attracts leisure and business travelers alike with its large number of features and elegant ambiance. There are 201 rooms and suites here, all of which feature classical decor, huge bathrooms, and modern features such as free Wi-Fi and big flat-screen TVs. Some suites also have balconies with gorgeous views of the nearby Table Mountain. Amenities include a pool, luxury spa, gym, and two heated outdoor pools, and the on-site fine-dining restaurant, Planet Restaurant and Bar, serves a varied menu of continental fare. While it has an upscale feel, families are welcome; there are even kids' and teen clubs.

Lawhill Luxury Apartments

Cape Town Central, Cape Town, South Africa

Overlooking the canal on the bustling waterfront, Lawhill Luxury Apartments are all about posh living with everything a traveler could want in an upscale hotel room -- but little else. It's more of an upmarket condo building that lacks the usual hotel facilities, save an outdoor pool. The full kitchens, large living rooms, and in-room washers and dryers, are well-suited to families and couples on long stays who like cooking for themselves.

4

The Commodore

Cape Town Central, Cape Town, South Africa

The 236-room Commodore is a pleasant enough, but slightly dated upper-middle-range hotel located in the V&A Waterfront area of Cape Town, a few minutes' walk from the quayside. Decor has a maritime theme throughout, which may not appeal to all, and there's not a great deal to get excited about beyond Table Mountain views in some rooms. Rooms are mostly adequate, however, with all amenities present and correct for this category -- though beware there is limited Wi-Fi. All in all it's a solid choice for those who like their hotels traditional and want to stay near the bustling harbor
