Embassy Suites Charleston - Historic Charleston Rating: 3.5 Pearls

Oyster Review Summary

Photos and Review by Oyster.com Investigators

Pros

Cons

  • Bland, somewhat odd, decor
  • Pricey parking

Bottom Line

Across the street from Marion Square, the upper-middle-range Embassy Suites Charleston is housed in the original Citadel Military College that looks like an aged fortress. The lobby, with an oddly placed array of plants, oriental rugs, and chairs, isn't as inviting as some other Charleston hotels, but the Historic Downtown location and the large suites -- complete with separate living rooms, wet bars, mini-fridges, and microwaves -- are the highlight.

Oyster Hotel Review

 Location

On Marion Square in Historic Downtown

Embassy Suites Charleston is located in Historic Downtown Charleston. This charming neighborhood looks just how it does in the movies, with colorful, porch-fronted homes, cobblestone streets, and beautiful gardens. Many of the homes date back to the early 1800s and the area maintains its old town feel with the city's height restriction ordinance.

The hotel sits across the street from Marion Square, a six-acre park, and is also within walking distance of many tourist attractions and the College of Charleston.

  • 20-minute drive to Charleston International Airport
  • 2-minute walk to Marion Square
  • 2-minute walk to the Charleston Museum, the oldest museum in the US
  • 3-minute walk to King Street, lined with high-end restaurants, art galleries, and shops
  • 6-minute walk to Aiken-Rhett House, the former governor's home built in 1818
  • 8-minute walk to the College of Charleston
  • 11-minute walk to Charleston City Market
  • 13-minute walk to South Carolina Aquarium
  • 15-minute walk to the harbor and maritime park
  • 15-minute walk to the Gibbes Museum of Art

 Bottom Line
