This adults-only property caters to couples -- both those looking for romance and those looking to party.
Opened in November 2013, the Breathless is absolutely pristine and stylish. Common spaces are calming with earth-toned decor and teak accents, while rooms are outfitted in bright geometric patterns. Shady walkways and manicured lawns weave throughout the resort’s restaurants, bars, shops, and pools, and a lazy river also snakes through the grounds.
The Breathless may boast 750 suites, but thanks to its massive physical size and adults-only policy, it rarely feels crowded or too loud, and the pools and beach have plenty of lounge chairs available. The same uncrowded vibe can be found at the restaurants, spa, and other common areas throughout the property. Nonetheless, guests looking for a lively party can certainly find a venue at this resort, which boasts nine bars and lounges as well as a theater and nightly entertainment.
In Bavaro, technically just north of Punta Cana
The Breathless is one of numerous resorts that sit on the gorgeous sandy beaches of Bavaro, an area just north of Punta Cana. And in its closest proximity, the hotel is surrounded by other luxury resorts such as Dreams and the Sivory. There’s a random smattering of restaurants and bars in the area, but most guests choose to dine at the gated resort throughout their stay. The airport is 30 to 45 minutes away by car, and rarely do guests spend anytime outside of the resort but for this drive -- and occasional day trips.
Suites are sleek and stylish, with private whirlpools
The 750 suites at Breathless are sleek and stylish. Outfitted with bright colors in geometric patterns, they were clearly designed with couples in mind; floorplans are open, beds are comfy, bathrooms feature large showers and double vanities, and balconies are decked out with private whirlpools.
Modern technology includes large flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, and all suites come with laptop-sized safes, coffeemakers, and fully-stocked mini-fridges. Upgrading to an Xhale Club suite means additional in-room snacks and beverages, as well as access to several VIP restaurants, bars, and a roped off section of the beach.
Tons of on-site activities, restaurants, and services -- all part of the all-inclusive rates
This property is bursting with on-site features, most of which are included in the rates. There are several pristine pools (which include varying features such as swim-up bars, whirlpools, and lazy rivers), tennis courts, watersports such as snorkeling and sailing, and daily dance, workout, and Spanish classes. Activities such as scuba diving and horseback riding are also available for an additional fee. The standout feature here, however, is the gorgeous white-sand beach where turquoise waters lazily lap the shore. Food and drink service is available on the sand, as well as by the pools.
The spa at Breathless is truly, well, breathtaking. Unsurprisingly, treatments cost extra, but the space features gorgeous, high-tech massage rooms, a small pool, a salon, and a “bar” with healthy juices and snacks. The adjacent, light-filled fitness center is open to all guests. It has over a dozen cardio machines, as well as strength-training machines, free weights, and balance balls.
All food and alcohol is included in the rates, and a la carte dining restaurants offer Lebanese, Italian, French, Latin, and Asian cuisine. There is also a buffet option, as well as a coffee shop with pastries and 24-hour room service.
Nine bars and lounges make up the resort’s late-night scene, and an on-site theater and nightly entertainment, such as live music and themed pool parties, attract a good number of guests. The resort also has a small casino.
While all guests can enjoy these luxe features, upgrading to the Xhale Club grants guests access to two private pools and a restaurant just for Xhale Club members. Two lounges offering additional snacks, appetizers, drinks, and desserts throughout the day are also exclusively open to members, as are several reserved sections of lounge chairs on the beach. Xhale Club rooms feature upgraded minibars as well as daily newspaper delivery.
Opened in November 2013, the Breathless is one of the newest, most luxurious all-inclusive options in Punta Cana. The 750-suite adults-only property is massive, so guests rarely feel overwhelmed by crowds, whether they are in one of the restaurants, at one of the pools, or relaxing on the gorgeous white-sand beach. Rates include everything from the food and alcohol to the water sports and themed pool parties, but some guests complain that the food and service at the restaurants lag. Nonetheless, the Breathless is undoubtedly more stylish than the similarly priced Riu Palace Macao 20 minutes south, and is a solid luxury option in the area.
