Add CommentHorrible experience in 2007...would never go back or recommend. Pool was filthy during entire stay...could not believe the amount of debris floating around! Absolutely hated having a "servant" sit in a "box" (small room) off of the kitchen of the "villa" all day long...in 95 degree temps with an open roof, no fan or a/c...I gave her money to go home!!! This practice is inhumane and terribly uncomfortable...for everyone. Golf carts are needed to get to tennis or beach or pool or food of any kind...not at all the feeling of a beach vacation and not at all convenient, especially with children. Call me crazy, but this was the worst "vacation" ever.
I was at Casa de Campo in October 2008, on an 8-night stay with my wife. The resort was absolutely deserted, at times we felt like we were visiting a hotel that's not officialy opened yet. Of the 22 restaurants, only a few were opened : Onno's in Altos de Chavon, the Lago Grill at the hotel, and Le Cirque at Minitas Beach. None of the mentioned excursions operated ... since there were no clients to book them. To top it off, I had booked eight nights while I intended to stay only seven. That way, I would be sure of a late check-out before leaving to the airport for a night flight back to Paris. I asked the front desk to organise our transfers, and behind the scenes they simply cancelled my eighth night, obliging me to check-out at noon. Complaining was of no use, since the resort would suddenly be fully booked due to an international golf tournament. There was no refund, since, according to the front desk, "I had cancelled myself by asking an airport transfer the night before my check-out".
They must have known you were coming...
