Melia CaribeTropical was fabulous

By jim sullivan from Warwick, RI on Nov 6, 2011

I have travelled quite a bit through the Carribean but always seem to come back to Melia Caribe Tropical. Yeah the pestering for time shares occures as it does any where you travel in the carribean but its something one learns to deal with. The staff is so friendly and as helpful as can be in view of the language barrier. The resort is large and can be confusing for first time visitors but there is a map of the property provided at check in to help with that. The food is as good as one would expect at an all inclusive and in fact better than most I have been to. At the slower times of the year they do close some of the restaurants for economic reasons. I develop land in the DR so I have been to the resort every month of the year. After having been to so many resorts on the island I would highly recommend Melia Caribe Tropical. The rooms, beaches, pools and overall ammenities are clean and well maintained. Its not perfect everyday in everyway but its a wonderful experience overall. Go with an open mind and heart and the experience will be rich and rewarding. Its not a five star resort in Palm Beach but then again the cost of the stay reflects that..Enjoy

Be Prepared to bring something to hold cocktails!

By Kim Ensign from Central IL on May 8, 2011

I stayed at the Melia Tropical side of the hotel. The room was adequate for my stay, food bland, but overall average. My biggest dissapointment was the LACK of beverage (alcohol) service on the beach, as well as lack of bathrooms (which after eating was much needed)... lack of meaning NONE. Make sure you pack a variety of sunscreen, hotel gouges guests with $30 american dollars per bottle. I reccommend bringing an insulated beverage holder 16 oz or more, bartenders are more than happy to cater to this. The flimsy 6 oz plastic cups they serve in make frozen drinks water in a matter of minutes. RESERVATIONS for must be made 24 hours in advance, good luck with getting through for the specialty restaurants. We ate at Ma Masion 3 times, several of the other restaurants were not even open. Sadly this was a must need change for the breakfast and lunch buffetts that were often served cold.

Beautiful hotel

We just got back from the Melia Caribe Tropical. While this is a beautiful hotel, I think it was just a little too large for us (over 1,000 rooms). We were lucky enough to get rooms by the beach, but the restaurants were located at the front of the hotel. You could walk, 5-10 minutes depending on where your room was located or take the train that ran around the grounds. The staff was great, the rooms were very clean. One other thing that was annoying was the people trying to get you to sign up for the Vacation Club. We would probably go back again.

two weeks at the Melia Caribe Tropical was worth every penny!

By joan james on Feb 24, 2011

My hubby and I just got back from a 2 weeks [all inclusive] stay at the Melia Caribe Tropical, and it was amazing! We were there for my daughter's wedding, and beside us there were another 29 people, who just loved the place! Of course you are going to get people who don't like something, that's expected! But over all, they were very pleased with the service and accommodations! We had this great guy, Jiovel [also known as Jerry], who worked the beach restaurant[outside], who everyone of us fell in love with! All the workers there went above and beyond their call of duty to make our stay a memorable one! We highly recommend it to anyone! We had 4 little kids with us, and there was lots for the kids to do! The kid workers were so patient and good with the kids! We will definitely be going back there on our next tropical vacation! Yes, you have the sales people, but after a couple of days, we just ignored them, and told them no, and that was that! Please don't let those little things deter you from experiencing an unforgettable vacation!

Sub-par everything

By from Lincoln, IL on May 28, 2010

Our family recently visited the Melia Caribe Tropical. After about 2 days we were ready to fly home. This was mainly due to the fact that we were constantly being barraged by sales people wanting us to attend time share presentations. At every turn there was a salesperson who didn't seem to want to take "no thank you" for an answer. It became exhausting and stressful. My 19 year old daughter finally surmised that if we didn't make eye contact, maybe they would leave us alone. For the most part, it worked!!! There are also sales people on the beach who are constantly trying to sell you excursions. They too will not take "no thank you" for an answer. The rooms were dated and smelled musty, the food "more of the same". 3 of the 9 restaurants were closed. The beach was nice with plentiful lounge chairs. The pools were also nice. The train is a great idea and runs regularly. Bring cash b/c you can get ripped off using credit/debit cards. And....lower your expectations if you go here and you will be fine!!

Confusing and not so great.

By from East Providence, RI on Apr 20, 2010

I went there a few years ago and was very disappointed. After hearing great reviews from a few of my friends that went, I booked a vacation there. We did not get the room we were supposed to get and nothing could be done about that. There are two sides to this resort, one better than the other. We were placed on the worse side and we were never told of the other side. The room was older and a little run down. The balcony to the room was falling apart. The grounds were very confusing and none of the staff were helpful in guiding us. They have a train to pick you up on all the walkways, but if you do not know where you are going the staff gets very impatient and they don't help you figure it out. By chance, we found the other better side on the last day of our stay. I would never go back nor would I suggest it to anyone going to Punta Cana.
