Bottom Line

The Malmaison Dundee is an upscale boutique hotel with superbly styled interiors and lovingly restored original features. It's in a convenient location for arrival by car or train, and all of central Dundee is within walking distance. Rooms are plush with nicely finished bathrooms, and some have Tay River views -- though others have no view at all. The restaurant is considered one of the city's finest, and its prices reflect that.

Malmaison Dundee

Scene

Chic and stylish boutique chain hotel with stunning staircase

The 13th hotel from the Malmaison brand, this handsome property follows the brand's signature super-chic styling -- and then some. Formerly the Mathers Hotel, little expense was spared in restoring the 120-year-old property to its former glory while adding plenty of plush contemporary, and occasionally quirky, touches. The original intricate wrought-iron staircase that spirals gracefully up to the grand domed ceiling is particularly impressive, and gilt-framed artwork and mirrors create a mood of sophisticated elegance.Tongue-in-cheek faux wooden-paneling introduces a playful element, while ceiling spotlights and a lavish centerpiece chandelier create an atmospheric low-lit environment that perfectly complements the sumptuous interiors and upscale ambience.
