Hotel Alba Palace is located inside buildings that were once part of the Santissima Concezione monastery and the convent of Dominican friars of Santa Maria Novella. Today the inside of the building matches the outside with Tuscan yellow walls, while terra-cotta floors and potted plants add an earthy vibe to the lobby. A pair of striped couches gives a spot for guests to rest their feet. The terra-cotta tiled stairwell with iron railings and the elevator with a glass window lead guests to the higher floors. Breakfast is served in a beautiful top-floor solarium with charming, colorful bistro tables and carved statues, and the bar is in a spacious room with a huge painting of Florence and bright red, tufted leather couches for guests to sit on while they enjoy a cocktail or cup of tea. This property has lots of character and warm touches, though some decor -- including those upholstered couches -- is on the dated side and feels a bit frumpy.
