Bottom Line

The boutique, mid-range Hotel Orto De Medici is located in central Florence, within walking distance of shops, restaurants, public transportation, and popular attractions. All rooms have air-conditioning and some have balconies, and while some look modern and fresh, others appear dated, with pink walls and tiny bathrooms. There's also a beautiful garden with a large fountain, an outdoor terrace with seating, and several common areas. Infusion Bar provides beverages and there's a seasonal garden bar as well. Wi-Fi and breakfast are free but parking costs extra.

Hotel Orto De Medici

Scene

Historic 19th-century tourist hotel with a dated look to some common areas

This historic 19th-century townhouse-turned-hotel has lovely frescoes on the ceilings, arches in the hallways, and hardwood floors throughout. The breakfast area features an antique-style chandelier and lots of large windows that let in natural light, and there's a lounge/bar area with seasonal outdoor dining in a garden. Other features include a rooftop terrace, free newspapers in the lobby, and free welcome ice creams. Some of the furniture in the meeting and reading rooms is dated, with red leather and mismatched design, but the lobby is a bit more modern, with wood floors and tufted leather pieces.

Rooms

Combination of modern, updated rooms and older dated digs

Superior Rooms with balconies and Classic Rooms are a bit older in style than the updated Deluxe Rooms. Flooring ranges from gray tiles to hardwood, and the bedding ranges from dated yellows and blues to crisp whites and browns. Pink paint in some rooms gives them a dated look, but the antique chairs and end tables have a pleasant appeal. All rooms come with minibars, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and free newspapers, and some have chandeliers. Bathrooms in Deluxe Rooms have granite countertops, wooden floors, and contemporary shower/tub combos while the bathrooms in Classic and Superior Rooms have brown and white tile floors and tiny walk-in showers that are really nothing more than a showerhead over a drain in the floor and a shower curtain.
