What It's Like

Key Largo is the northernmost island in the string of Florida Keys, and is home to the Keys' diving and snorkeling spots. Although the nightlife isn't as happening as Key West, most visitors here won't complain. The town is home to plenty of delicious, top-notch restaurants and fun, laid-back bars.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, an excellent place for beginner snorkelers, is one of the area's most popular attractions. In addition, multiple ship wrecks and coves dot the coast.

Note that most of the beaches on Key Largo are manmade; some of them are still nice enough, but the real draws here are the diving, snorkeling, boating, and other water activities.

Where To Stay

Most restaurants and bars can be found on the western side of Highway 1, near the town's center (between Atlantic Avenue and Ocean Drive). The best snorkeling and diving is a bit removed from the action, within a three to six mile radius from the downtown area.
