Bottom Line

This charming, eight-room property is housed in a historic building on a quiet street in Old Town Key West, within walking distance to some of the major tourist attractions, and to a couple of good beaches. Each of its rooms has a distinct character and few amenities (a flat-screen TV and little more), but they come with charming decor (four-poster beds, antique touches) and relaxing views of the well-tended grounds. The hotel has no amenities whatsoever -- just a tiny pool -- but there are some great freebies like free Wi-Fi, free parking, and a free breakfast basket delivery.

The Weatherstation Inn

Location

In Old Town Key West, two blocks from lively Duval Street and within walking distance of beaches and historic attractions

The Weatherstation Inn is located on a quiet street in the western tip of historic Old Town Key West, far enough from the crowds and souvenir shops to feel like it's a different city, but close enough to have easy access to shops, restaurant and nightlife. There are also plenty of tourist attractions nearby, and some of the best beaches in the Florida Keys are a short walk away.

Key West is the westernmost of the Florida Keys, and is definitely the most convenient if what you’re looking for is nightlife, as well as great diving, shops, restaurants, and decent beaches -- all within a few blocks. It can feel like a bit of a tourist trap with its tacky bars, hordes of cruise ship passengers, and T-shirt shops, but it’s one of the few Keys that has historic sites to visit -- it played a key role in the military actions of the 19th and 20th centuries. On the literary side, Ernest Hemingway and Tennessee Williams spent a big part of their lives here, and their homes have now been turned into museums.

  • 10-minute drive to Key West International Airport
  • 68-minute drive to The Florida Keys Marathon Airport
  • 2-minute walk to the Truman Little White House
  • 4-minute walk to the Key West Museum of Art and History
  • 5-minute walk to the Key West Shipwreck Museum
  • 7-minute walk to the famous Sloppy Joe’s Bar, supposedly Hemingway’s favorite
  • 8-minute walk to the Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center, with exhibits about local fauna and flora
  • 8-minute walk to the art galleries, shops, restaurants and nightlife along Duval Street
  • 12-minute walk to the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum
  • 15-minute walk to Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park and Beach
  • 20-minute walk or a 4-minute drive to the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory
  • 7-minute drive to Higgs Beach, a favorite among the gay community
  • 7-minute drive to the Key Plaza, Conch Plaza and Overseas Market shopping centers
