Bottom Line

Hampton Inn Ft. Lauderdale Airport North Cruise Port is a 109-room value hotel. With close proximity to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and cruise ship dock, Port Everglades, it’s a good choice for short-term guests pre- or post-cruise, as well as business travelers. The location isn’t the most desirable, with a shopping center across the street and a large parking lot surrounding the grounds; nothing much is within walking distance. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, but no on-site restaurant, although there is a gift shop with snacks. There is a free buffet-style breakfast every morning. The rooms are basic but clean, with a cookie-cutter style that could belong in any of the chain’s hotels nationwide.

Hampton Inn Fort Lauderdale Airport North Cruise Port

Scene

A standard cookie-cutter hotel chain

As part of a nationwide value hotel chain, Hampton Inn Ft. Lauderdale Airport North Cruise Port gets the job done, but doesn't do much more than expected. The entrance is a glass automatic sliding door, and the interior is attractive if a bit corporate, with yellow stucco walls, graphic rugs, and a little seating area. The theme, if any, is yellow. It’s found throughout, from the common areas to the rooms. There is no restaurant or bar on the grounds, but there is a shopping center across the street. Most guests coming in and out are short-term guests who are staying pre- or post-cruise.

Location

Bland location in quiet, industrial area close to port and airport

A large parking lot sits outside the hotel, which is a popular area for cruise-goers to park (for a fee) while on the water. Southland Shopping Center sits across the street and has limited options for food; most shopping, restaurant, and entertainment options are all driving distance away. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is a five- to 10-minute drive and the hotel offers a free shuttle to and from upon request. Port Everglades, where most cruise ships dock, is five minutes away by car.

Rooms

Generic contemporary decor and spacious bathrooms

Rooms are decorated minimally with a white bedspread, taupe wallpaper, and generic wooden furnishings. The room we saw was a little musky and dusty, but clean overall. The neutral color scheme is brightened by a few pops of red and orange. The decor is what you'd expect from a Hampton Inn -- modern, generic, and perfectly serviceable. Each room is equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, television, and free Wi-Fi. The bathrooms are spacious with tile floors, granite countertops, and a shower with a tub.

Features

An outdoor pool, ample parking space, and free breakfast

Although there is no restaurant on the premises, the Hampton Inn Fort Lauderdale does have a gift shop where various snacks can be purchased, and offers free buffet-style breakfast every morning for guests. The main property feature is the large outdoor pool, which is clean and surrounded by lounge chairs and shrubbery. The hotel has a small gym on the ground floor with modern machines, and a small business center with printer tucked into a hallway. The parking lot outside of the hotel is large and many guests use it for a fee while on their cruise. With its close proximity to the airport, the hotel offers a free shuttle upon request.
