Bottom Line

This boutique hotel is a sharp budget pick across from the beach in Fort Lauderdale. The 18 rooms have a vintage-modern charm and some offer ocean views. The hotel’s stylish roof deck overlooks the water and has a bar, and guests can borrow beach towels, bicycles, chairs, and umbrellas for free. Aside from those perks, this is a fairly no-frills property -- there’s no pool or restaurant, and the hotel isn’t staffed 24 hours a day -- but rooms are bright and cheery, and include flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges, and some have kitchenettes. It'll be hard to find style like this right next to the beach at these prices, but Premier Hotel has modern rooms, many of which also have kitchenettes, just up the road at similar rates.

Snooze

Scene

Smart, laid-back budget hotel with boutique style and a stylish roof deck

The neighboring hotels tower over the five-story Snooze, which has a decidedly low-key atmosphere and a lot more charm than many other budget properties in the area. There’s a small office that’s staffed through the early evening to greet guests, and those arriving after-hours receive an elevator code. It's all about having a smart place to sleep here, and facilities are fairly limited. The main common area is the stylish roof deck, which takes advantage of the oceanfront location, with beautiful views of the water and surrounding palm trees. There’s a small white and gray bar that’s ringed by lounge chairs and outdoor couches with aqua cushions and red umbrellas. The hotel draws a mostly younger crowd, but families may also find it welcoming, with beach toys available to borrow.

Snooze sits on busy A1A, across from the beach and surrounded by chain hotels and many restaurants and bars. Los Olas Boulevard, which has more restaurants and nightlife, as well as art galleries, is about a five-minute drive from the hotel, and can be reached in 10 minutes on foot. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in nearby Hollywood is a 30-minute drive. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is a 25-minute drive, and 40 minutes to an hour away by bus. It will take just over 50 minutes to reach South Beach by car.

Rooms

Vintage-modern style, some with kitchenettes and ocean views

The 18 rooms have a fresh, beachy style with vintage-modern accents, painted bright white with white modern furniture and aqua bedspreads, pillows, and lamps. Colorful photographs hanging on the wall depict scenes of South Florida in its mid-century, Art Deco heyday. All rooms have flat-screen TVs and some come with ocean views, but there are no phones or alarm clocks. Rooms configurations include king beds and mini-fridges, and larger Kitchenette Rooms that come with sinks, full-size refrigerators, microwaves, toasters, coffeemakers, plates, and utensils, and butcher block center islands with stools and separate wooden dining tables. There are also small Dorm Rooms with twin bunk beds and flat-screen TVs (though keep in mind that these rooms do not include free parking). Bathrooms are basic and bright, with curtained stall showers, tan and blue tiling, and bright blue walls. Fixtures are modern and they are clean, but there's limited counter space.
