Oyster Review Summary

Photos and Review by Oyster.com Investigators

Pros

Cons

  • No on-site beach access
  • Noticeable noise from connecting units
  • Some rooms overlook the parking lot and other condo villages
  • Less-than-comfortable mattresses, and old tube TVs in some rooms

Bottom Line

The Hilton Grand Vacations Club offers an affordable two-bedroom option within the Waikoloa Beach Resort. The living room, dining, and kitchen areas are well-equipped for multiple guests and longer stays, much like other condos in the area, but access to the Waikoloa Hilton allows guests to enjoy resort-like perks close by. The lobby area and main pool are beautifully designed, though both can easily become crowded (along with other facilities) due to high traffic and small space. Some areas are a bit dated, but overall it's a great value for the price and for those looking for a more at-home-type extended stay.

Oyster Hotel Review

 Scene

Residential-style condo property is geared toward families and extended stays

Tucked between two 18-hole championship golf courses along the 10-acre Hilton Waikoloa Resort, the Hilton Grand Vacations Club offers a cozier, more at-home guest house feel than one might expect for such a large resort area. The condo-style accommodations are situated among a verdant landscape with a lava-rock river pond and towering palms. Casual picnic tables, colorful benches, and free-use barbecue grills can be found along the property -- as can three varied pools, one of which is surrounded by a lovely lawn dotted with comfy cabanas, a small slide (for kids and adults alike), and a poolside bar and grill.

 Location

Close to Waikoloa shopping and dining, but some distance from other destinations on the Big Island

Hilton Grand Vacations is located at the northern side of the Waikoloa Beach Golf Course on Waikoloa Beach Drive. The property is just a short walk to the nearby Hilton Waikoloa Village and a short drive to other shopping and dining options available at the Kings Shops and Queens Marketplace, but other popular destinations are some distance away.

  • 30-minute drive to Kona Airport
  • 5-minute drive to Kings Shops and Queens Marketplace
  • 35-minute drive to Waimea
  • 40-minute drive to downtown Kailua-Kona

 Rooms

Units are large and clean, but mattresses are far from high-end

The 120 rooms at the Hilton Grand Vacations Club are spacious and clean, though there is a huge contrast between the Master Suite and the second bedroom. The Master Suite feels luxurious with contemporary accents and a flat-screen TV, whereas the guest rooms tend to feel more generic and like any other chain hotel. The mattresses are equally uncomfortable in both rooms.

  • Master bedrooms have large bathrooms with a separate shower and an enormous soaking tub
  • All units have a full kitchen, dining area, living room, and washer/dryer
  • Private terrace with outdoor furniture
  • Tube and flat-screen TVs, cable, DVD/CD players

 Features

Three pools, two tennis courts, and a barbecue area

  • Pre-arrival grocery delivery
  • Three pools, including one with a fun water feature and small slide
  • Two tennis courts
  • Small fitness room with dated machines
  • Barbecue and picnic areas
  • Bay Club Cafe is a poolside bar serving drinks and casual food
  • Access to Waikoloa Hilton facilities (including pools, beach, and restaurants)
  • Free transportation to surrounding resort area
  • View Full List of Amenities
