We have been there three times since 2001. Even before the renovation, it was a great place to stay. The last time we were there, the renovation was still in progress.
I would agree with just about everything in the review, although I was surprised at the comment that the porter didn't help with the bags. We have always had great service from the valets, and the porters brought our bags up shortly after check-in.
I was also surprised that the reviewer needed to rent beach chairs as the resort has plenty of their own. It can be difficult to find open ones later in the morning, though. Even though it is a public beach, I have never found it to be very busy at any time.
The food is great wherever you go. We love eating at Duke's - especially the Barefoot Bar down by the beach. The poolside service is also good.
The lack of free wi-fi in the rooms is somewhat surprising. If you don't mind sitting in some of the common areas, it is possible to pick up a free wi-fi signal. Just dress for possible mosquitoes at night. I got bitten a few times checking e-mail in the evenings.
We have enjoyed being there every time we have gone, and look forward to going back!
At least as good as, maybe even better than, the review!
