Excellent oceanfront location trumps outdated decor
The Pacific Beach Hotel's two towers, one with 38 floors and another with 17, regularly receive traveling families who come for the property's exceptional location very close to the famous Waikiki Beach. And many don't mind the outdated interior set-up of cheesy hotel features like party-room chandeliers in the lobby and a huge blue oceanarium in the restaurant. Overall, there is a casual vibe throughout: Guests are allowed to take their towels to the beach, and there is filtered water available all over the property to encourage the purchase of water bottles at reception.
Across the road from Waikiki Beach and close to shops of Kalakaua Avenue
Pacific Beach Hotel is located directly across from Waikiki Beach on the southern side of Oahu, one of Hawaii’s larger islands. The shopping strip of Kalakaua Avenue is a 10 minute walk, and the zoo as well as the aquarium are both within several blocks of the hotel. Diamond Head State Monument, which is visible from a number of the rooms, is a short city bus ride away.
Clean, no-frills rooms in need of an update
Old patterned carpet and carved wood furniture do telegraph an outdated aesthetic, but guests have consistently commented that the rooms are well-kept, and that the beds are comfortable. All rooms have a balcony, air conditioning, a coffee-maker, and a fridge. Because of the hotel's location just across the street from the beach, some of the lower-level floors can experience a lot of noise. Not all rooms are non-smoking units.
Coin-operated laundry, convenience store and 24-hour fitness center
This large oceanfront property has a lot of convenient amenities, from an outpost of popular Hawaiian convenience store ABC in the foyer, which is fully stocked with souvenirs and snacks, to a 24-hour fitness center, a coin-operated laundry and a spa, which doesn't always offer all the services listed on the hotel's website. Guests can also join the property's fitness club to take advantage of a selection of exercise classes. While guests have complained about the poorly maintained pool, most are impressed with the large oceanarium in the restaurant.
This large 839-room hotel is popular with tourists and families because of its exceptional location just across the street from Waikiki Beach and its wide array of convenient services (an on-site restaurant, a spa, laundry facilities and more). Nearly all guests have noted that though the hotel is clean it could use an upgrade, especially the dated decor of the rooms. Some floors close to the meeting rooms and gym can get noisy. Take note that the Pacific Beach Hotel charges a daily service fee to all guests in addition to the nightly rate.
