This Westin offers a super swank ambiance, with plush guestrooms and elegant public spaces. The lobby is particularly pretty, with high ceilings and unique accents that include a garden wall and funky light fixtures made with what look like tree branches. The color scheme is a mix of yellow, aquamarine, and tangerine offset by light-colored wood floors and a smattering of earth-tone furnishings. Several small reception desks in lieu of one massive check-in counter make for a more personalized feel. And clusters of couches and chairs scattered around the lobby, as well as cushioned lounges and armchairs dotting the manicured grounds, add to the intimate vibe. Some guests, though, have found the resort's layout -- especially the long hallways -- difficult to navigate.

Tucked away from the area's nearby main streets, the hotel is located on a road filled with private resorts and sits right on the beach. The resort fee includes a shuttle to the nearby Port Royal Golf Club, which is less than a 10-minute drive or 15-minute walk away, and the Port Royal Plaza Shopping Center, which is about a 5-minute drive away. The resort is around a 10-minute drive from the local Hilton Head Island Airport.

The 416 rooms are simply decorated but plush. Highlights include textured grey carpeting, sleek light wood furnishings, and pillow-top mattresses that get good reviews from guests. All rooms offer modern amenities, which include 42-inch flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. In addition, there are mini-fridges, coffeemakers, robes, and hairdryers. Bathrooms have large double vanities and curtained shower/tub combos with rainfall showerheads. All rooms feature private balconies, some with views of the ocean.

The resort's numerous features and activities attract families and couples alike. There are several pools, including a pool that’s heated and covered by a roof, as well as easy access to the beach. A number of seasonal activities are offered, including movie night and poolside arts and crafts. There is also a seasonal kids' club for children ages 4 - 12; supervised activities include nature walks, games, and swimming.

The daily resort fee includes shuttle service to the Port Royal Golf Club, local shopping, and the marina, as well as access to the fitness center and Wi-Fi. The spa, which gets good reviews, offers an extensive menu of services and nine treatment rooms. Highlights include a steam room, whirpool, and relaxation lounges. The resort is also pet-friendly, allowing dogs up to 20 pounds with a non-refundable deposit.

There are a variety of dining options available for guests, including indoor and outdoor spots. Breakfast and dinner are served at the casual Carolina Café, while poolside drinks and lunch are available at Splash.
