In East Tsim Sha Tsui, within a few minutes’ walk of two MTR stops, several major sights, and shops
The Kowloon Shangri La is conveniently located in East Tsim Sha Tsui neighborhood in Kowloon, an area known for its numerous attractions and wonderful shopping. The hotel is near a few parks and within walking distance to major attractions, including the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Avenue of Stars. The East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station is half a block from the hotel, and the Tsim Sha Tsui is within a five-minute walk.
A neighborhood of museums, historic temples, and shops, Kowloon attracts visitors throughout the year. The area is home to some of the world's largest malls, a lively nightlife, and Kowloon Park -- Hong Kong's version of Central Park. But it's not just shopping and partying in Kowloon. Many areas of the neighborhood have an authentic vibe, with all kinds of open-air markets -- flowers, jade, produce -- and historic buildings from before and during the time of the British occupation.
This luxury hotel lives up to the Shangri-La brand's stellar reputation, but there are a few small details that prevent it from being a true five-pearl property. Beautiful rooms have elegant furnishings, wood accents, and floor-to-ceiling windows, most with sweeping views of Victoria Harbor or the skyline. But lower category room bathrooms, though clad in marble, feature hotel-brand toiletries, and a few don’t have tubs. There are several fine dining options, as well as a more casual tapas bar and a lobby lounge with bar service, but the highlight here is the Shang Palace, a wonderful Cantonese restaurant boasting two Michelin stars and outstanding service (which reopened in September 2012 after a renovation). The fitness center, small indoor pool, and classy business center make it a great pick for business travelers, but its central location in Tsim Sha Tsui, near major attractions and the MTR, make it an ideal option for tourists, too.
