Bottom Line

Part of the Rhombus brand, Hotel LKF lives up to the luxury chain's reputation for modern, glitzy decor, which matches its location in the heart of Hong Kong's nightlife district Lan Kwai Fong. The 95 earth-tone rooms are spacious by most standards, equipped with impressive amenities that include free use of smartphones, espresso machines, and large bathrooms. Guests should beware that some rooms suffer from lots of noise due to the surrounding nightlife. The hip and stylish top-floor restaurant features great panoramic views and a bar with chic seating and a pool table. However, there are no pool or spa and rooms only offer city views. For harbor views and a heated outdoor pool, the nearby Conrad Hong Kong offers both -- although for higher rates.

Hotel LKF by Rhombus

Scene

Boutique-style, 30-floor hotel with glitzy, upscale interiors

There's something distinctly office-like about the hotel's spartan glass facade, however, the entrance's rainbow-effect signage and polished black stone feels more ritzy. The glitzy lobby is awash with shimmering metallic accents, funky undulating window features, and cool, contemporary furnishings in velour and leather. Hallways are more smart and sober, with a trio of elevators ferrying guests to one of just 95 guest rooms. While describing itself as a boutique hotel, the property still soars to 30 floors, with the top two occupied by a bar and restaurant featuring spectacular city views. Most clientele tend to be business types, but because of its setting in the buzzing nightlife district of Lan Kwai Fong, the property is also popular with vacationing couples and friends in town to party.

Location

Surrounded by the buzzing nightlife of Hong Kong's Lan Kwai Fong district

The hotel is located in the heart of Hong Kong's trendy and buzzing Lan Kwai Fong neighborhood, surrounded by other high-rise hotels, hip bars, and popular restaurants. The area is also well-known for its vibrant nightlife and home to numerous nightclubs. In fact, there's a club right across the street from the hotel (families and business travelers might not appreciate the late-night noise). It's about a 10-minute walk to the MTR Central Station, giving easy train access to most of the main tourist attractions. Bustling Victoria Harbour is two stops away, while shops at Causeway Bay shopping are three stops. Victoria Peak, which has great views of the harbour, is a 20-minute drive. Hong Kong International Airport is about half an hour away by road -- traffic permitting.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with upscale tech including free smartphones

Having just 95 rooms and suites spread over the 30 floors, rooms are certainly some of the more spacious (ranging from 500 to 950 square feet) -- especially by Hong Kong standards. Muted earth-tone decor is chic and stylish, featuring floral-themed artworks, luxury linens, a mix of carpet, wood, and tile floors, and either dark or light wood furnishings. Bathrooms are big and modern, with shower/tub combos or separate tubs, and some are nestled by a window with partial city views. Bath products are L'Occitane and robes are provided, while suites add 12-inch bathroom TVs.

Amenities certainly impress with minibars, Illy espresso machines, and 42-inch flat-screen TVs with DVD players and surround-sound systems. Upgraded rooms add printer/scanners. All lights can be controlled by a bedside panel and a choice of pillows includes a goose down option. Wi-Fi is only free if booked through the hotel's website, but all guests are provided smartphones with free local (and some international) calls and internet roaming on 3G networks. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide city views, though none of the harbor and most are just of neighboring buildings. Reports suggest lower-floor rooms are prone to some street noise, while noise from the top-floor bar can be heard in upper stories.

Superb panoramic views from stylish top-floor restaurant

The hotel's limited on-site facilities include the ground floor business center and small but modern gym that has a handful of cardio and strength-training equipment and free weights. On the top two floors of the property are the Azure Restaurant Slash Bar. The stylish rooftop eatery is open for all three meals and views are spectacular, thanks to 270-degree panoramas and even an outdoor patio. The bi-level space is connected by a sweeping staircase and divided into four different areas, one of which includes a chic bar and billiards table. Shortcomings include the lack of a spa or swimming pool.
