We don't mind sacrificing a little comfort during our travels if that means reducing our carbon footprint. But then again, not all eco-conscious hotels call for lights out and cold showers. The 10 hotels that make our list of those with the best eco-friendly perks aren't all LEED-certified, but they still know that going green makes guests and Mother Earth happy. So here's our salute to some great stays that are doing their part to reduce, reuse, and conserve with these awesome green amenities. One of two resorts in Belize owned by movie director Francis Ford Coppola, Blancaneaux Lodge enjoys a splendidly lush location beside a creek in the country's Mountain Pine Ridge. This fabulous hideaway features a long list of eco-friendly practices, including a hydro-electric plant, which harnesses the energy of Privassion Creek and supplies the property with renewable power. The 136-room Creekside Inn along Matadero Creek in Palo Alto looks a bit like a motel from the outside, but the property is pleasant, with tall, shady trees; ivy-covered pathways; and flowered grounds leading to a lovely courtyard with a stone fountain. One rare feature unique to the inn is a charging station for electric cars, which are increasingly common in eco-conscious California. Situated in the artsy SoMa neighborhood, the Good Hotel has earned its moniker "hotel with a conscience." With features such as a water-conserving toilet-top sink, the Good is environmentally friendly and charmingly quirky. This modern, eco-friendly boutique is the first carbon neutral hotel in Buenos Aires. The hotel features an organic snack-stocked honest bar, bamboo bike rentals, and a gorgeous vertical garden. The 39-room Post Ranch Inn is one of the most beautiful hotels in the United States, offering a romantic, intimate stay amid gorgeous natural surroundings and a truly green experience. Eco-friendly practices include free Lexus hybrid car loans for guests, and an endangered animal sanctuary on-site. This historic -- yet chic -- property in the center of East Hampton appeals to the stylish Hamptonite crowd, as well as the high-end tree hugger. Distinct green amenities include free yoga classes in the Buddha garden, free bike loans, and a chef's garden that supplies many of the herbs for the on-site restaurant's sophisticated, hyper-local cuisine. Lapa Rios, located in the remote coastal rainforests of the Osa Peninsula, is Costa Rica's original luxury eco lodge. Guests come to the upscale Lapa Rios to enjoy the spectacular surroundings, learn about sustainable tourism, and re-connect with nature amid 1,000 acres of rainforest, home to endless wildlife. Viceroy Snowmass is easily the most luxurious resort in Snowmass Village, and is packed with top-notch eco perks, including free parking for high-efficiency vehicles and low-flow faucets (which save about 1.35 million gallons of water per year). Evergreen Lodge is a 22-acre cabin resort surrounded by Stanislaus National Forest, about one mile from Yosemite National Park's western border. Guests looking for something active to do will find plenty -- there's some equipment for rent on-site, such as mountain bikes and snowshoes, plus fly fishing, bocce ball, rafting, horseback riding, and two recreational halls filled with games, books, and arts & crafts materials, as well as tons of outdoor lounge space and kids' areas. The 106-room Hope Lake Lodge uses eco-friendly systems and local vendors as often as possible. There is an organic blueberry farm near the main grounds, and the lodge uses a high-tech ionization air purification system in the water park, grand lobby, and hallways. The system spreads ionized oxygen clusters that attach to airborne pollutants such as mold bacteria, pollen, chemicals, and odor in order to rapidly drop them from the breathable air.
