Amee Farm Rating: 3.5 Pearls

New England B&Bs are perfect for romantic getaways, as adventure home bases, or for family-friendly stays. From Connecticut to Maine, these bastions of hospitality await with steaming hot breakfasts, homey decor, and personable staff. Prepare yourself to mug down and bed up after viewing our favorites in this slideshow: With its warm, urban-chic vibe, Amee Farm isn't a typical B&B. Rooms look straight out of an interior design magazine, with a near-perfect combination of rustic, warm, quaint, and stylish touches. An inviting wrap-around porch with Adirondack chairs for admiring the scenery is major perk, but be prepared to hunker down and eat on-site, as the small Vermont town of Pittsfield has little more than a general store to offer.

Carpe Diem Guesthouse & Spa is a relaxing escape from the party scene of Provincetown -- but still close by for guests who feel like getting out and joining the fun. The rooms are all named for writers and decorated differently -- all are stylish and charming. Perks such as a delicious free German breakfast, free wine and cheese hour, and the full-service Namaste Spa are also draws. This charming, elegant B&B fits in nicely with the Nantucket atmosphere, and is the only inn on the island to provide a full, hot breakfast (thanks to its commercial kitchen). The rooms don't come cheap, but then again, nothing on Nantucket does. And the fact that downtown is a mere three-minute walk may make it worth the price for some. The Inn at Ormsby Hill is a quintessential historic B&B. Guests come to know the innkeepers -- who make a delicious free breakfast -- by name over the course of a peaceful stay. Each of the 10 rooms is individually decorated, but they all share a theme of classic New England decor with lots of patterns and warm colors. Even though it is located on a relatively busy street, the property is large enough for short walks or watching the sunrise over the mountains. A Little Inn on Pleasant Bay offers historical architecture and nine relaxing, television-free rooms. Guests of this mid-range B&B will enjoy views of the bay and the Adirondacks, a delicious breakfast, and charming English hosts. This historic inn in Cape Cod has 16 elegant rooms decorated in an English country style. In addition to providing a gourmet country breakfast, this charming inn also offers afternoon tea, evening snacks, sweet treats, and port or sherry in the library. One outstanding feature is the heated outdoor pool with plush lounge chairs -- especially convenient since this inn is not located on the waterfront. This historic inn is a popular choice for weddings due to its picturesque location in Grafton and reputation for delicious food. The 45 rooms are spread throughout the Main Tavern and four guesthouses, all clustered in the same area. Rooms are typical for New England, with four-poster beds, lots of floral prints, and tight bathrooms. Unlike similar nearby hotels, the Grafton Inn has extra features including tennis courts, a fitness center, and a pond for swimming. This 100-year-old mansion built by the Vanderbilt family has been converted into a modern, elegant hotel. It's a luxury property, so accommodations here don't come cheap, but the rooms are well-appointed, the dining is first-class, and the location is prime -- close to Newport, but without the noise. A spa, a substantial fitness center, and two swimming pools round out the list of features. Plus, guests get plenty of free champagne -- when they check in, and at breakfast every morning. The Winvian is a romantic, upscale property set on 113 acres of countryside outside tiny Morris, Connecticut. Its 19 individually decorated cottages all have a feel of understated, rustic elegance with the convenience of modern amenities, including Bose surround systems, flat-screen TVs, and Nespresso coffeemakers. All units have working fireplaces, large bathrooms with separate walk-in showers and jetted tubs, and unique, mind-blowing design features. The outstanding spa and the wonderful restaurant serving a tasty farm-to-table menu are just some of the highlights. The Beach Plum offers comfortable rooms and suites with French-country style. The property is a beautiful, remote up-island spot overlooking Menemsha Harbor, the fishing village, and a lighthouse. Just don't expect cell phone service here; part of the charm of sinking into a hammock on a private patio is not having any reception. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property for those who need to stay in touch, and an on-site restaurant -- while pricey -- is excellent. Christopher Dodge House offers a quaint, affordable bed-and-breakfast experience in Providence. The full daily breakfast is a nice perk, and the cute rooms are spacious and comfortable (though the bathrooms are on the small side). Details such as four-poster beds, fireplaces, and original tin ceilings from 1858 add historic charm. Snug Cottage is a quaint B&B with an excellent location and some great perks. The eight rooms are rustic and cozy, and feature fireplaces as well as modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. Free afternoon treats such as wine, lemonade, and cookies, a delicious free daily breakfast -- and free parking in Provincetown (a rarity) -- make this a stand-out option. But even though it's just one block from busy Commercial Street, peace and quiet reign here -- so party people may want to look elsewhere for a place to crash. Every room at the Yankee Peddler Inn has a different configuration, thanks to the nature of the historic mansion’s architecture, but all are perfectly sufficient as far as size goes. Although the decor could use a facelift, rooms do have charming touches (some have four-poster canopy beds). Ground are attractive (think: climbing ivy, potted plants), the roof deck is lovely, and rates are more affordable than at other properties nearby, making this a solid, centrally located value option in pricey Newport. The Inn at the Round Barn Farm has a serene location with more than 245 acres of rolling green hills in every direction. It has a decidedly romantic ambiance, with rooms that have whirlpool tubs and/or working fireplaces. Unfortunately, bathrooms are small throughout, and many rooms have showers only. Having a small indoor pool and fitness center (though technically it's only a few cardio machines) is a true B&B rarity in these parts, but the real draws here are the peaceful ambiance, romantic and cozy experience, incredible views, and fresh air. Lambert’s Cove Inn is a cozy spot in a remote location. Here, it's quiet (provided you book a room away from the front desk) and quaint, with a home-like feel and beautifully manicured grounds. The resort doesn't allow children under eight, which helps preserve the serene atmosphere. The free daily made-to-order breakfast during the high season is a superior to the buffet-style breakfasts offered by many inns. This historic sea captain's home is now a charming, 15-room inn full of indulgent freebies and modern touches. It's in a quiet, residential area of Kennebunkport, within walking distance of the shops and restaurants downtown. Cozy rooms vary in size, decor, and amenities -- some have fireplaces, soaking tubs, and private entrances -- while all include modern perks such as free Wi-Fi, iPod docks, and flat-screen TVs. Free breakfasts here are a gourmet, sit-down affair, and more yummy snacks are available throughout the day, including at afternoon tea. After a much-needed renovation in 2010, Platinum Pebble Boutique Inn went from “grandmother’s house” to “New York City chic.” Innkeepers Annabelle and Simon provide a modern, luxury inn experience in the setting of a historic Cape Cod home. There are some great perks, too, including the daily in-room breakfast, afternoon tea, free parking at the Earle Beach, and an outdoor pool. Its rooms are among the most stylish on the island, but rates tend to be more affordable here than at luxury competitors, since it's not located right on the water (though the beach is within walking distance). The intimate James Place Inn offers seven rooms on a quiet street near central Freeport and local shopping. The polished rooms are named for the color on the walls, and some come with fireplaces or soaking tubs. One of the most outstanding features is the free, extensive breakfast made up of homemade items. While nice extras include a peaceful outdoor deck and appealing hammock, some rooms have very small bathrooms and are susceptible to noise.
