Luxury for less: Casa de Campo versus Punta Cana Hotel
Sometimes, we come across a deal so phenomenal, it makes us scratch our heads. That's how we felt when we saw that the Punta Cana Hotel in the Dominican Republic is selling rooms for around $100 a night. It seems too good to be true, but this, dear reader, is the real deal. When we stayed at the Punta Cana Hotel last year, we paid $300 a night for our stay, and thought it was a pretty fair deal for that price.
The D.R.’s classiest, most famous resort since 1974, Casa de Campo’s massive, 7,000-acre property comes with three world-class golf courses, an on-site horse stable, an immaculate beach, a luxurious spa, 20 restaurants, and even a replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean villa. This place is excellent for families, honeymooners, and anyone who loves variety.
Punta Cana Hotel's 202 suites are steps away from the beach, on a giant property that includes the La Cana golf course, Six Senses spa, a nature preserve, eight restaurants, horse stables, and more.
Oyster's Take: Casa de Campo has a better golf course, but that's about it. The Punta Cana Hotel is on par in every other respect, plus it has a more convenient location -- all for a third of the price.
