On Main Street right by the Medical Center and Rice University
The Best Western at Medical Center is aptly named; it is situated right by the Medical Center, as well as Rice University and the Houston Zoo.
They say everything's bigger in Texas, and Houston definitely lives up to that. Characterized by steamy summer days and mild winter nights, the thriving metropolis sprawls over a flat landscape punctuated by tall, stately buildings and winding roadways. Major areas include East End, Montrose, Downtown, and the Kirby districts, but shopping, restaurants, and other attractions can be found off most major highways.
As the country's fourth biggest city, Houston is home to several major sports franchises, including the Astros, Rockets, and Texans, as well as the Johnson Space Center, where visitors can hear the infamous line, "Houston, we have a problem" from Apollo 13.
The 150-room Best Western is a budget hotel within a medical center, just a few blocks from Rice University. It largely caters to business travelers in the area and often those visiting the hospitals; the hotel provides a free shuttle to the nearby facilities. The hotel features an indoor pool and a fitness center but both are mediocre -- the pool area is a bit drab and the fitness center is very small, with only a few cardio machines. Nonetheless, the hotel is a solid value: Rooms are spacious and offer free wired Internet access (though no Wi-Fi), hot breakfast and parking are free, and inexpensive suites are available with kitchenettes. The hotel does not have a full-service restaurant.
