Located along the beautiful white sands of Playa Norte and a short walk to downtown Isla Murejes
Isla Mujeres is a small island located eight miles east of Cancun. Meaning "Island of Women," the Isla Mujeres got its name from Spanish conquistadors who, when settling there in the 16th century, discovered numerous idols in honor of Ix Chel, the Mayan goddess of childbirth and fertility. Only five miles long and half a mile wide, it's historically been a quiet, secluded fishing village. But as vacationers have flocked to the Riviera Maya section of the Yucatan Peninsula, Isla Mujeres has experienced a boom in tourism. For travelers in search of a more tranquil, relaxing experience far from the rowdiness and endless bustle of Cancun, the island is an ideal getaway.
Here guests can revel in the island's quaint charm, marvel at the beautiful Caribbean Sea, walk among the locals carrying their fishnets, and purchase handcrafted trinkets and taste native fruits and vegetables in the downtown area. In addition to swimming, snorkeling, and shopping, there are a number of sights to see on Isla Mujeres, such as the old mansion and gardens of Hacienda Mundaca, the amazing Turtle Farm, the reefs of Garrafon Park, the lovely soft sands of Playa Norte, and the easternmost part of Mexico and the highest elevation in the Yucatan, Punta Sur.
Close to the bustle of downtown Isla Mujeres and along the beautiful sands of Playa Norte, Privilege Aluxes provides not only comfort but also a touch of luxury. The 124 rooms are spacious, feature a modern, minimalist decor -- though at times it may seem too austere -- and come outfitted with amenities such as alarm clock radios, minibars, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. Many are suites and have impressive ocean views and large, private terraces with their own Jacuzzis. Outside, the grounds are well kept, dotted with tall palm trees and two glistening pools. The shoreline is just steps away and the hotel provides relaxing beach beds shaded by towering palm roofs. There’s an all-inclusive option for guests, and there are three on-site restaurants to choose from.
