Bottom Line

The Courtyard by Marriott, which opened in 2007, is one of the newer hotels in the Lake Placid area. Furnishings and decor in the 96 rooms and suites are comfortable and basic (standard modern-style for a chain hotel), and amenities include flat-screen TVs, ergonomic chairs, and free Wi-Fi. The location on the main road into town is not really pedestrian-friendly, per se, but it's only a short drive to Mirror Lake, shops, and restaurants. A fireplace and pub keep the lobby cozy, but if you are seeking great views synonymous with Lake Placid, then you’ll have to leave the hotel to find them.

Courtyard by Marriott Lake Placid

Scene

A chain standby that has a touch of Lake Placid charm

The Courtyard by Marriott is a new structure recognizable by its large orange, green and stone exterior. It’s a convenient place to arrive from the main road, and there is ample parking close to the covered entrance. The Zen-like front desk area leads into a lobby that more closely resembles a ski lodge, with leather chairs and a cozy fireplace. Free coffee is available throughout the day here, giving guests a chance to sit back and relax during colder months. In the summer, you'll find a similar kick-back-and-relax atmosphere in the outdoor courtyard. The small pub in the lobby provides guests with a pre-dinner drink spot before heading out to a local restaurant -- as there's no on-site dining options in the evening.

Location

Just off Cascade Road and a short drive to nearby sites

Driving (or biking) is necessary to and from the Courtyard Marriott, but proximity to most attractions is close. The hotel is just off the main road that leads into downtown, and the Ski Jumping Complex and Olympic Sports Complex are a short drive in the opposite direction. Lake Placid is located in the sprawling Adirondack Park, which contains more than 3,000 lakes and 2,000 miles of hiking trails.

  • 29-minute drive to Adirondack Regional Airport
  • 3-minute drive to downtown Lake Placid, Mirror Lake beach and the Olympic Center
  • 4-minute drive to the Olympic Sports Complex and the Olympic Ski Jumping Complex
  • 4-minute drive to Jon Brown’s Farm
  • 5-minute drive to the Lake Placid Golf Club
  • 14-minute drive to High Falls Gorge
  • 15-minute drive to Whiteface Mountain Ski Center
  • 25-minute drive to Santa’s Workshop
  • 41-minute drive to The Wild Center
  • 76-minute drive to the Adirondack Museum

Rooms

Spacious rooms have modern amenities, but lack views

Decor is consistent between room and suite types, which contain dark wood furniture, contemporary accents, and white duvets found standard in chain hotels of this caliber. Modern conveniences, like ergonomic chairs and free Wi-Fi, appeal to the business crowd. Windows that open allow for fresh mountain air, but many look out onto the parking lot or roof.

  • 32-inch flat-screen TVs
  • Mini-fridges and coffee makers
  • Work desks and ergonomic chairs
  • Tub/shower combos in most rooms
