Bottom Line

This modern Best Western offers a good value for a clean, quiet hotel sans casino in Vegas. A large indoor pool and updated rooms sets this hotel apart from its competitors. There are many shops and restaurants nearby as well. Travelers looking for the same value closer to action can try the Best Western Plus Casino Royale.

Oyster Hotel Review

Best Western Plus Las Vegas West

Scene

Chain feel with clean, modern decor

The hotel has the feel of a chain, but is modern and tastefully decorated with framed art and hanging lamps in public areas. The lobby features blown glass vases next to a cluster of simple leather coaches and chairs with graphic-print area rugs. The breakfast room is similarly clean and modern. The area with the large L-shaped indoor pool and hot tub looks somewhat institutional, but is nonetheless a good escape from the desert heat.

Location

Removed from the Strip, yet close to lots of businesses

The hotel is in the middle of a large asphalt lot with a fast-food restaurant next door and a mix of residential properties and businesses nearby. Boca Park and Village Square are accessible shopping destinations, reached by a quick car ride. The hotel is right near the suburban Las Vegas town of Summerlin, a largely residential community known for its large number of golf courses, as well as a fair number of retirement villages. The airport and the Strip are both a 20- to 25-minute drive away, so the hotel doesn't have the most convenient location for those wanting to be close to the casino scene. The Hoover Dam can be reached in about an hour as well.

Rooms

Modern decor with kitchenette options

The property’s 59 guest rooms have a decor reminiscent of a modern rec room, with black and beige patterned carpeting and curtains, and black and dark wood furniture. In 2015, the red throws on the beds were replaced with brown throws and matching bedskirts. The King Suite features a kitchenette while other spaces have mini-fridges and coffee machines. Flat-screen TVs and hairdryers are on hand as well. Bathrooms are a tight fit, but there’s a decent amount of room around the sinks.
