Bottom Line

There’s nothing remarkable about this 54-room, aging hotel -- it has a fairly decent restaurant, nice park views from some rooms, a tiny fitness center in the basement, and little else. But rooms are large and comfy -- though a bit run-of-the-mill -- and come with flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, free Wi-Fi, and Neutrogena toiletries. Its location in residential San Isidro, across from the Lima Golf Club, might not be the most convenient for those looking to be close to major tourist sites.

Oyster Hotel Review

Hotel Libertador Lima

Location

In the Embassy District of San Isidro, an exclusive residential area with an interesting dining and shopping scene -- but far from major tourist attractions

The Libertador is located on a quiet street in the safe Embassy District, which is part of exclusive San Isidro neighborhood, a mostly residential and commercial area south of Lima Centro, the capital’s historic district. There’s nothing within walking distance but a few embassies and the Lima Golf Club, which is right across the street from the hotel.

Miraflores, a bustling area widely known for its shopping areas, gardens, well-maintained parks, and beaches, is just south of San Isidro, and the only remaining pre-Incan ruins in the area are a quick cab ride away.

San Isidro is home to many upscale hotels, and is popular for its shopping malls and the quality golf club with views of the Lima skyline. It is mainly residential (especially the area around the Embassy District, located between the ocean and the Lima Golf Club), and generally safe, but visitors don’t usually spend too much time here -- they mostly stop (or drive) by on their way to Lima’s historic district from Miraflores, the real draw in the capital city.

  • 30-minute drive to J Chavez International Airport
  • 8-minute drive to Museo Amano, a museum of pre-Columbian artifacts
  • 10-minute drive to Huaca Pucllana, the only remaining pre-Incan ruin in the area
  • 11-minute drive to Miraflores Central Park and John F. Kennedy Park
  • 13-minute walk to the Parque del Amor, a romantic park overlooking the Pacific Ocean
  • 14-minute drive to the Larcomar shopping mall
  • 15-minute drive to Lima’s Historic District
  • 16-minute drive to the Cathedral of Lima
