Bottom Line

The Alif Avenidas (formerly the Dom Manuel I Hotel) is a modern business hotel located across the street from Sao Sebastiao metro stop. It was completely renovated in late 2010, and it now features 64 decent-sized rooms (by Lisbon standards) with flat-screen TVs, comfortable beds, and empty mini-fridges. Decor is contemporary, and some rooms feature bright red accent walls -- but there’s a fee for Wi-Fi. The restaurant and bar are mediocre at best, but the breakfast buffet (not included in the standard rate) is decent, and there’s a small business center with two computers and a printer. In short, it’s a good pick for business travelers, but it’s worth comparing rates at nearby hotels before booking.

Hotel Alif Avenidas

Location

In quiet Sao Sebastiao area, a 15-minute subway ride from most major attractions

The hotel is located on a wide residential street in Sao Sebastiao area, a quiet, mostly residential neighborhood north of the city center. The Sao Sebastiao metro stop (served by the Blue and Red Lines) is right across the street from the property, which makes it really easy and fast to get to most major attractions in central Lisbon. El Corte Ingles, one of the largest shopping malls in Lisbon, is located a five-minute walk from the hotel, but the neighborhood has few interesting shopping options otherwise. There are a couple of decent local restaurants in the immediate neighborhood, but you’ll have to go south or west to find more variety and nicer places.

  • 13-minute drive to Lisbon Portela Airport, or 25 minutes via public transportation
  • Across the street from Sao Sebastiao metrostop
  • 6-minute walk to Eduardo VII Park
  • 11-minute metro ride to Chiado
  • 13-minute metro ride to the Santa Justa historic elevator, with great views
  • 13-minute metro ride to Rossio, a main square
  • 14-minute metro ride to Bairro Alto
  • 15-minute metro ride to the heart of Baixa
  • 16-minute metro ride to Casa dos Bicos
  • 16-minute metro ride to Praca do Comercio, a beautiful plaza facing the river
  • 21-minute metro ride to Alfama
  • 25-minute metro ride to St. George's Castle
  • 12-minute drive to the National Museum of Ancient Art
  • 15-minute drive to the Jeronimos Monastery
  • 15-minute drive to the National Coach Museum, the largest museum of royal coaches in the world
  • 17-minute drive to the Belem Tower
