Bottom Line

The 94-room Hotel Lisboa's is an elegant hotel in a central location, just off of Avenida da Liberdade and within walking distance of numerous sights. Unlike some of the smaller Heritage hotels, Hotel Lisboa features a cafe that serves light meals and a fitness center (though it's tiny), as well as great common areas. The luxurious lounge, dubbed the "Chill Out Room," features plush furniture, paneled ceilings, and fresh flowers, while the rooftop terrace is lit up at night and has a (non-alcoholic) honesty bar. The rooms are simple but charming; half have antique-style mahogany furniture, and the other half are more modern, but all are meant to evoke the feel of a Portuguese home. Marble bathrooms have shower/tub combos and bidets. All in all, this is a solid option, but it's also worth considering the hotel's nearby sister property, Heritage Avenida Liberdade Hotel.

Hotel Lisboa Plaza, a Lisbon Heritage Collection

Location

Central location just off of Avenida da Liberdade

Hotel Lisboa has a great, central location for tourists just off of Avenida da Liberdade. It is within walking distance of the heart of the Baxia, Chiado, and Bairro Alto neighborhoods.

Avenida da Liberdade, Lisbon's main artery, is a tree-lined street packed with high-end hotels and shops. But Bairro Alto is also a bustling area in Lisbon. Popular due to its lively nightlife spots, it is also home to vintage and antique shops. The cobblestone streets are often crowded with people, as are the area's bars and restaurants. Largely spared during the earthquake, Bairro Alto has some beautiful historic monuments and sights. Like in other areas of Lisbon, visitors should be careful in Bairro Alto at night, especially on the side streets; they have a reputation for loitering drug dealers.

Nearby Alfama, a Moorish area, is a fishing town with great fado clubs. Like Bairro Alto, it can also be a bit dangerous at nights. Baxia, the financial district, attracts mainly business travelers. But it does have good shopping, particularly for gold and silver. West of Baxia, Chiado is the main shopping district.

  • 18-minute drive to Lisbon Portela Airport, or 27 minutes via public transportation
  • 3-minute walk to Avenida de Liberdade
  • 7-minute walk to Casa dos Bicos, or 9 minutes via public transportation
  • 10-minute walk to Rossio, a main square
  • 12-minute walk to Barrio Alto
  • 12-minute walk to the heart of Baixa
  • 14-minute walk to Chiado
  • 16-minute walk to the Santa Justa historic elevator, with great views
  • 17-minute walk to Praca de Comercio, a beautiful plaza facing the river
  • 7-minute drive to Alfama, or 16 minutes via public transportation
  • 8-minute drive to St. George's Castle, or 22 minutes via public transportation
  • 8-minute drive to the National Museum of Ancient Art, or 24 minutes via public transportation
  • 16-minute drive to the the Coach Museum, the largest museum of royal coaches in the world, or 31 minutes via public transportation
  • 18-minute drive to the Belem Tower, or 42 minutes via public transportation
  • 18-minute drive to the Jeronimos Monastery, or 41 minutes via public transportation
