Bottom Line

The 89-room Inspira is a four-pearl boutique property situated just off of lively Avenida da Liberdade. The sleek, modern hotel design includes elements of Feng Shui; the common areas of the hotel, including the lobby and bar, have an open feel, and the rooms and suites are themed after the five traditional Chinese elements. There's a lovely restaurant that can cater to vegan and gluten-free diets, and the hotel offers three well-equipped meeting spaces, a gorgeous spa with all sorts of treatments, and a tiny fitness center that just gets the job done with a limited selection and lack of free weights. Travelers may also want to consider the Hotel Florida, which has a similar vibe (but an equally unimpressive gym).

Inspira Santa Marta Hotel

Scene

Sleek, contemporary boutique hotel with open lobby space; popular with business travelers and tourists

This four-pearl boutique hotel is housed in a lovely off-white building with stylish wrought-iron Juliet balconies looking over the street, giving it a traditional look. The lobby is contrastingly contemporary, with lots of knotty-pine slatted pillars and trim, polished marble floors, and a few clusters of light-gray plush chairs and sofas typical to what one might find in a corporate lobby. The front desk area is brighter, with a series of multihued boxes behind it that add pops of color to the otherwise brown-and-gray space. The hotel's open-plan bar/restaurant is off to one side, with a display case full of wine bottles and a bar counter lined with high-backed chairs. The restaurant's interior has a decor scheme as found in the lobby, with lots of pine paneling, light-wood floors and tables, and lantern-style lighting hanging from the ceilings. A few plants and a ficus tree add even more vibrancy to the space. The hotel attracts both business travelers and tourists alike, and has a subtly hip and youthful vibe.
